FYI for the ladies delivering at Winthrop
So for the last couple of months, I've been hearing that the rooms are all private now. Well... I was SO excited on my first night there bc I had the room all to myself. It was great! Well, the next morning, they wheeled my roommate in.  The rooms are NOT all private. Just wanted to let you ladies know that!

i'm going to take it as your roomate was NOT a nice person?? lol
mine was a NIGHTMARE the first night (i was at NSUH manhasset) so i paid the money to get a private room. Best thing ever.
The girl was just a disaster

I asked my OB at my last appointment and she said that they are not private and she hasn't heard anything about them becoming private. She said she would try to find out but honestly doesn't see how they will have the room to make all the rooms private. I was hoping they would be private as well since I heard they were trying to make the transition soon. I hope it is not just a rumor.

They are not guaranteed to be private unless you pay $250 a night. They said they do their best to keep one person per room. If it's crowded they have to double up.

Yeah i was talking to the lady i babysit for last night and she didnt believe me because she said there is no way they could have room for everyone to have a private room

Ummmm... that is the understatement of the century!
She had a minimum of 5 people in the room at all hours, and I mean ALL HOURS. They kept the door closed so security wouldn't kick them out. On her first night there, her BF had music blasting from his computer and I had to complain to the nurse and they asked him to turn it off. She was also on the phone until 3am every night with different people re-telling her birth story 37493848 times and talking crap about her baby-daddy not being there for the delivery. IT WAS RIDICULOUS and I actually cried on the phone to DH about it every night. It was bad! lol

This stinks! I was the one that posted awhile back about how they are going all private. My husband works there and he still swears that it's the case. However, he just mentioned that if the floor gets filled it's likely that they will double up on rooms. He does say that they are doing construction to open more rooms so as time goes on the odds for a private go up, but he's just a resident and not in maintenance or building planning so I'm not sure if has all the details.
I am so SO SO sorry for spreading misinformation and also for your awful roommate experience. Why was she even allowed to have 5 people in the room at one time!!

My first time around I lucked out halfway through my stay with a private room. After that, I am seriously thinking about shelling out the $250.
My roommate BF, I wasn't. I was annoyed at how loud her and her husband were all night long with the baby.
She was annoyed at me because I was on the phone at 3 am and all kinds of odd hours getting updates on my son who was in the NICU.
Both scenarios couldn't be helped I guess, but it is making me think the $250 this time around will be money well spent.

Wow, I am so sorry to hear about your difficult roommate experience.
When I heard of the the rumor I did ask my OB and she said she heard the same thing, all rooms were going private.
I suppose I will either beg for a room without a roommate and maybe they will feel for me since I will have twins.
If not I may have to cry to my mom and get her to fork over the $$ for the private room

When I was there everyone seemed to have their own rooms. The nurse in labor and delivery said the weekends are usually less crowded.

It depends on how busy they are. I was there for 5 nights and had to share the first 2 nights. DH complained about the parade of people comingin for my roomate and they moved me to a private room.

It must've been a busy March, b/c the entire world gave birth while I was there! I had a roommate for two nights. Given the circumstances of my c-section, I had priority for a private room, which I finally got on my last night there.
They TRY to keep one mom per room, but if they have an influx of laboring women, you get a roomie. Good times.
