Furniture Scratching Easily?

I was just curious, did you find your baby furniture scratched easily after you received it? I just went to Buy Buy Baby during my lunch break to check out what they had. Some of the cribs and other furniture looks like they had scratches all over, the saleswoman said that was because people scratch it with their keys, etc. but now i'm nervous about ordering a set that would potentially scratch easily. Just wanted to see what your experiences were. Thanks!

The wood getting scratched (particularly on a lot of the darker shades of wood) is a common complaint among many crib buyers. The wood they are using to build cribs nowadays is a soft wood, that does actually scratch fairly easy. However, the floor models are going to look WAY worse because they are thrown together by people who don't care about the crib, they are moved around the store by employees and customers, people do bump into it, try to see how easily it can be scratched up, etc. So it definitely won't look as bad if you had the same one, because it will probably be built carefully and not moved or touched a hundred times by a hundred different people. But, it is not true that those are the only reasons. I am sure there will be some scratches and nicks in the crib, especially depending on the type of wood it is. Many of the cribs I liked are that darker, softer wood and will be bound to get some marks. But they are all pretty much made like that.

YES!!! At least mine has scratches ALL OVER the crib and 2 dressers and this was before DD was even born. The delivery guy who came to put it together told me that children's furniture is also painted with non toxic paint which doesn't give the wood the protective coating regular furniture has and recommended not changing the baby in the crib because if you do, the front of the crib will really get bad fast. Good luck!

Yup! We had a dark cherry wood crib for DS - we nicked it a few times before and right after he was born. THen he got his teeth/toys on it and forget it. It wasn't THAT bad, but we noticed it.

YES, i bought mine at buy buy baby. Crappy furniture..it looked niced at first but its all scratched and the drawers knobs come off. If i had it to do over again i would have invested in a better quality set.

Re: Furniture Scratching Easily?

We have white furniture from BBB and it doesn't have ANY scratches on it (and DD is 16 months old). It's the Bonavita Hudson set. I love it. It's really in as good condition now as it was when we got it.

I think white furniture holds up better. It also helps if your child is not a beaver (but you won't know that until they get here and get teeth).

We have a darker wood set by Pali & it has scratches on it. Some of them showed up before DS could even move so I know he didn't do it. They just kind of showed up.
