FTWMs- when do you schedule DC's extracurricular activities?
I'm so stressed about this! I've been a SAHM for the past 18 months since my DS was born. I also have a DD that is going into second grade. It's been great being home but it looks like it's time for me to go back to work soon.
My DD did tons of activities afterschool last year (soccer, dance, ice skating, swimming, etc). I know having her do all of those things will be impossible when I return to work but I still want her to do a few. My husband gets home after 8 pm every night and his schedule will never change, so he's no help. I'm also not totally comfortable having a nanny drive them around.
So I guess my question is, how do you make it work? I just feel so guilty that she may have to miss out on so much...

Re: FTWMs- when do you schedule DC's extracurricular activities?
I don't do after school stuff. Tho they have stuff for AJ's age, I can't afford it. Even if I could, I don't get to her school until 530-600pm.
After school stuff when she gets to grade school will be just as impossible. Meh.
I wasn't into after school activities until Middle School etc. I don't see the harm. I'm grateful to give her what I can. She's not missing a thing as far as I can tell.
We do stuff with school on weekends (they organize stuff). We take her out on our own. She's very much a social butterfly and gets along with all the kids her age no matter where she goes. She makes friends, even just for one day. She's happy.

So far, DS has done Little League and that was on Saturday. Both DH and I work full time and during the week is so crazy with making dinner and homework so any other extracurricular activities will also have to be on the weekend. Next summer DD will start dancing school and there are weekend classes.

right now in the summer, while I have off the kids are not involved in anything. I try to keep them occupied, and I am spent.
While working Full Time during the school year I try to schedule everything on the weekday evenings so the weekends are free to relax (which is never REALLY relaxing with 3 kids) LMBO.

I'm not a FTWM but I work in the afternoons. I am lucky that I teach dance at an after school center so DS comes with me 2 days a week and does activities there. Otherwise he wouldn't do anything after school because it would be impossible. We also do weekend sports- soccer in fall and little league in spring. I'm thinking of igning him up for hockey his year if I can get it on Saturdays.

i agree with you. i feel like so many parents cram their kids' schedules with too many extra cirricular activities. if anything, i may put my kids in piano or violin but that's probably it. i was not into extra cirricular activities outside of school (middle and high school) and i turned out okay!
