FTWM, P/T Breastfeeding?

I went back to work a few weeks ago and am trying to pump 2X a day, but it is really hard with my job since my schedule is all over the place and I'm in meetings a lot. I think next week I will be transitioning to pumping 1X per day. But I was wondering if any FTWMs only nurse in morning/night and don't pump at all during the day? Can this be done?

Aside from not getting this extra milk (DS is already being supplemented with formula), will it impact my supply for the morning / night nursing sessions? I want to keep breastfeeding but don't think I can pump during the day much longer.Chat Icon

I would be worried about foremilk and hindmilk.

To be honest no way could I make it without pumping twice a day. Not sure what you schedule is like but I couldn't imagine going 12 hours without pumping.

15mins twice is day is not alot of time imo.

good luck

my day is like yours, in and out of of meetings and always on the road. I had to stop pumping when i went back to work, it just wasn't feasible and was extremely stressful.

unfortunately your production will dwindle if you dont pump during the day. Since you will be pumping/nursing less your body will think that LO needs less food and cut down your supply.

My pediatrician talked to me about this when I started back to work. She said that you can absolutely nurse just in the morning and night, your body will adjust. She said the only thing is that on the weekends you should keep the same schedule and not nurse all day because comes Monday you will be engorged.

My day is similar, but I do whatever I can to make it work. I don't pump at regular intervals, but my body has adjusted. I've pumped in my car, pumped at places where I've had meetings, etc. I've been lucky that I have a good enough supply where I can pump only twice and usually get enough for the 3 bottles for the next day. I also have a large freezer supply in case I don't pump enough.

Your body will adjust, but I'd try to at least pump once during the day.

I did this with ODD but she was nine months old.

Your body does adjust to accommodate morning and evening nursing sessions.

But chances are you will lose your general supply fairly quickly. When I stopped pumping at work, initially I had enough milk to do AM&PM nursing sessions but after a few months I stopped altogether. I was okay with that because she was over a year old at that point.

I guess you have to figure out what your BF goals are.

When I was breast feeding DD #2 I went back to work when she was 3 months old.
I could not pump at work
I breastfed DD for morning and evening sessions only.
I was able to do this for about a month.
However my supply definitely took a major hit by only doing those two sessions without pumping and I eventually was not producing enough milk and stopped at the end of the 4th month.
