frustrated with 1st party planning
So I sent out an invite to our closest family with the date that we were thinking of for Natalie's birthday. There were a lot of people that said they couldn't make it for understandable reasons. So I threw out another date (Sat or Sun of memorial day weekend) and my SIL already responded that it's her BF's bday on that Monday and they don't know what they're doing to celebrate yet. Sigh. I have a bad feeling about this date as well. Grrrrrrrrr

Do it when you want. We did DS's party on Valentines' day and some people did not come. Oh well...we still had a great time anyway!!

Re: frustrated with 1st party planning
I would imagine your sister's BF is older and probably won't be celebrating their birthday during the day.
So, it won't neccessarily conflict with a 1st birthday party if you're having it in the afternoon, right?
I think you're giving them plenty of time to mark their calendars. Do the party when its best for the majority.

Re: frustrated with 1st party planning
Its rough trying to work with everyone's schedules but it will all work out. Plan the party for the weekend that works best for you. She won't know the difference but as long as you and DH have wonderful memories of the day you can share them with her.

Do it when it's best for you. There's always going to be things that come up and you have to work around your schedule not eveyone elses.

Re: frustrated with 1st party planning
Do what is best for YOU!! I booked my ds 1st b-day around my moms vacation to find out after I gave the deposit that my dad and my sister(and her whole family) had just booked a vacation together for that weekend! You can't please everyone! This year I am just going with what I want and I am not going to worry about any else!!

I agree with everyone else. You do what date works for you and if people can come great, if not then oh well. You will never please everyone.

Re: frustrated with 1st party planning
Ok - I'll say it. Niece's 1st birthday trumps BF's birthday unless there was some tragedy in BF's life.
I would have my party during the day so she can party at night with her BF if need me.

Re: frustrated with 1st party planning
Pick a date and tell people firmly that's when it will be. We were able to have our party on DS's actual birthday. If anyone had complained, they would have been told that I am not going to change his actual birthday and that we want it to be on that day. I believe that our parents heard some complaints but only from people who always have something to say .
