Frozen Embryos

Hi - Not sure if anyone checks this board but just really wanted to get out some thoughts. We just got the bill for continued storage of our 3 frozen embryos from last year - we'd already decided to thaw them and not use them - but its very emotional for me. We were lucky to have 5 embryos fertilize - we transferred the best two and now have healthy 5 month old twins! With an older DS as well we are probably complete although leave it open IF something were to happen on its own. Why is it still so hard then to call and tell them not to continue freezing? I feel like it was such a process to get them, and some people don't even get that far - its just a weird mix of emotions and I was wondering if anyone else went through this.

TIA!

We also have twins that are now 3yr old. We didnt use the balance of embryos & just let them go. We couldn't donate!!!!
I struggle with it EVERYDAY!!!!!!!!! My husband didnt want anymore kids & didnt want to pay to keep frozen. It makes me so SAD.
I am over 40 now so I know being older makes it harder.......but so wish I can have baby now.

I imagine it would be an emotional mix, because letting go of those embryos means so many things on so many levels. For everyone the meaning will be different but if I take a guess i would say, it feels very final and a means to end of a very long and difficult journey. take time to mourn this process. Good luck

I never come on anymore, but I just happened to & saw this post. I'm in the same boat. It's an ethical issue for me--I feel like we created life, and now....what? We're going to destroy it? It's really bothering me. We're still freezing them for this reason, even though we have no intention of using them, which seems ridiculous.

I didn't consider this during the process. I only had my eye on the prize & wanted as many to freeze as a "back-up" plan. Now I feel foolish. Chat Icon

no one ever thinks about years later, the only choice I made was to have them destroyed if I died before my transfer. I thought what would family or my mom do with my embryos or eggs...

Uhhh such a hard decision. Going into it you want as many embyos as possible but yeah then what? For my 4th transfer and finally successful IVF we had 15 embyos fertilze. I had 2 to transfer (1 stuck) and 1 to freeze. So for me I will use the one embryo and hope it works for a second child. If not we are out of luck. I went into it saying I wanted to give all frozen ones a chance but if there were too many idk what I would do. No way I could handle more than 3 children. I'm sorry you are in this position....just another sad infertility thing to deal with.
