Frozen BM?

DS just started eating oatmeal. Seeing as how I make just enough to cover his bottles most days, I'm going to use frozen milk to make his oatmeal. If I take it out tonight to defrost in the fridge, do I need to use it by tomorrow or do I have until Thursday? Also can you mix frozen and fresh milk?

TIA

Re: Frozen BM?

You have one day to use defrosted milk. So let's say you take it from freezer to fridge tonight, I would assume by morning it will be defrosted and so then you will be able to use it until Thursday morning, but I would just make sure to use it by tomorrow night to be on the safe side.

You can mix frozen and fresh, but then you will have to use all the milk within a day.

Always use within 24 hours from the time it's thawed. Remember, this rule is just to ensure it doesn't lose any nutrients. If it goes a little over 24 hours it won't be spoiled. I would sometimes go a little over the 24 hour time frame when I put it with oatmeal. The oatmeal carries many nutrients as well so I never really fret.

I always defrosted my frozen milk right when I needed it. I just ran the bag under the faucet and it always thawed quickly. At least that would buy you till the next morning for another serving. As an aside, I always made DD's oatmeal with water. I hated pumping and preferred to save my small freezer stash for when I really needed it.
