Front Facing car seat
When do you start using a front facing car seat? Any suggestions on a model?

MINIMUM: 20 lbs. AND 1 year old
(we JUST switched DD to forward-facing at nearly 20 months and 30 lbs)
We have a Britax and are very happy with it.

Britax seats are always very highly rated in terms of safety. I believe someone posted some BRU coupons on the Coupons thread if you're looking to buy one this weekend.
You can have your child rear-racing once he/she is 1 year old AND 20 pounds. The longer you can keep them rear-facing, the better it is for them, safety-wise.
We JUST turned my 19.5 month old forward-facing in her Britax the other day. I was thrilled that she was rear-facing for so long.

Great minds-- I was just typing as you posted, apparently.  Are we the same person???  Exact same answer in 3 ways (except DD's only 25 pounds).

Yes, you definitely have time then! Is he in an infant seat still? Because you CAN move him to a convertible seat (most are approved from newborn on up, actually) where he'll have more room, but he'll need to stay rear-facing in it until at least a year.

Yes, but keep in mind, many forward-facing seats can also be used rear-facing. We switched DD to the Britax at around 7 months, and she remained in it rear-facing till just a few days ago. Same carseat, just turned it around. I imagine at 20 lbs, your DS is getting heavy in the carrier!

We diverge in this-- DD was not in her Britax until 9 months-- finally, a difference!
OP- is your son still in the infant seat?

You will definitely need a convertible seat before DC is forward facing. If DS is 20lbs already, you're either at, or almost at the limit of an infant seat. Once you hit the weight limit for the infant seat, you must put them in a rear-facing convertible seat.

I agree. Most convertible seats start at 5 lbs, but the convenience of being able to just pop the seat out and carry it is very nice..
