A DRIVER for Martha Stewart was arrested on Tuesday, but the exact circumstances are a bit murky. After Stewart left her Bedford home early to make an appearance on "The View," she noticed on the ride into town that her car was being followed by a police cruiser. When her car stopped at the "View" studios on the Upper West Side, it was surrounded by officers, who promptly arrested her driver. A visibly upset Stewart went up to her dressing room and, according to a source, "started shouting loudly to an assistant over the phone." The domestic diva yelled, "How could you do this to me? Don't you do background checks on people? He was Egyptian! What do I pay you people for?" Our spy added, somewhat unnecessarily, "She was furious." A rep for Martha Stewart Omnimedia told Page Six: "The company confirms the driver was arrested yesterday. He was a temporary employee and had only been with MSO a short while." The rep refused to give us the driver's name or what he was busted for. An NYPD rep said he could provide no information without a name.

IT'S never clear if Adam Brody is settling down or playing the field, but the Hollywood hottie's latest conquest is fresh-faced "Hostel II" actress Lauren German. The two were very cozy the other night at the Tower Grove Villa in Beverly Hills, according to a spy. They arrived together for a DJ battle sponsored by Reebok and Vitaminenergy, and "Adam spent the entire night with Lauren. He was caressing her back and refused to be photographed with her." A rep for Brody told Page Six, "I don't comment on my clients' personal lives."

Josh Hartnett seems to have an international beauty on each arm.

On May 28, he was spotted at Snitch with British model Agyness Deyn, who was "sitting in his lap wearing thigh-high black boots while he smoked," says a spy.

Twenty-one-year old Deyn (born Laura Hollins) is currently the face of luxury goods outfit Mulberry. She and Hartnett have also been seen in SoHo and were caught June 4 at Bungalow 8, where, says a spy, they "held hands and cuddled" into the early hours.

But only the week before, Hartnett was seen entertaining Penelope Cruz. They met for drinks at Delancey Bar and were spotted dining at lower East Side hot spot Alias.

Tough life, huh?

Some people take their soap operas a little too seriously.

Actress Brittany Underwood, who plays Langston Wilde on ABC's "One Life to Live," had a cup of coffee dumped over her head outside an upper West Side Starbucks Wednesday afternoon.

A rep for the show tells us that a male stranger "approached her and said, 'Oh, excuse me, my bad,' and then poured the coffee over her."

Underwood had been on her way to meet cast members at a pre-Daytime Emmys party at Nikki Midtown. After she recovered from the shock, says the rep, she went to a friend's house to change clothes and wash her hair.

The bizarre incident took place outside Starbucks at 67th St. and Columbus Ave.
