Re: Fresh Mozzarella..
Thats the thing- Its made in a pizzaria, so I wouldn't know if its pasturized or not. Maybe I shouldn't even chance it.

if it's on a pizza isn't it heated in the oven? that would make it ok to eat!!

It's only OK if the cow that it came from was black with white spots- not white with black spots.

i ate it all the time... I don't think they make cheese anywhere around here with unpasteurized milk... if you are that nervous just ask them.

Re: Fresh Mozzarella..
My dr. told me no to fresh Mozzarella even if it's cooked on Pizza. I thought if it was cooked in a hot oven like that, it would kill anything bad. But I guess I was wrong. I miss having those gourmet pizzas with the fresh mozzarella.
I just asked the dr. today if I could go for a spray tan because I have an affair to go to this weekend and they nixed that too!

That's odd since the cooking should kill the bacteria...did your doctor say why??

And it's actually cooked when it is made the first time. We don't eat it raw. The curd is put in boiling water which is what makes it what it is. I have eaten a TON of it and most other soft cheeses because almost everything is pasteurized, which means you are safe!

Re: Fresh Mozzarella..
depends!
Websites say that 'fresh' cheese is made from unpasteurized milk.... but I'm a cheese addict and have been researching..... a lot of 'fresh' cheeses are indeed made from pasteurized milk.... so are many goat cheeses. I have no idea why websites claim we must avoid them
I go to fairway, the wonderful land of all stinky unpasteurized cheeses, and even THEIR fresh mozzarella (made fresh in front of you in the shop is made from pasteurized milk....
just read the ingredients list.... and avoid situations where you can't double check that the milk was pasteurized

Believe me I was shocked when she said that! I had already had some of that gourmet pizza I was telling you about... whoops. She said something like the hot oven isn't hot enough to kill what could be harmful in the Mozzarella??? Every dr. is different and I'm sure some say it's ok. I just stay away from it because my dr. told me too.

I don't think that the rub on tan out of a bottle is harmful. It's the spray tan because you are inhaling the fumes??? I am not really worried about the DHA seeping in through my skin. In fact I might go the sunless tan in a bottle route for this weekend. I wish they said it was ok, it's so much easier that way. It's hard to go ahead and do something when your dr. tells you not to.

Re: Fresh Mozzarella..
as for your dr saying no even if it's on a cooked pizza, that's idiotic! those things cook in ovens above 500 degrees! that kills all bacteria!!!
at any rate, you can still ask the pizzaria if they wouldn't mind reading the package of cheese to see if it's pasteurized or not
