Freddy Update

It's been a while I thought I would update you all.

He's still at Jamaica Hospital and he got his temp prosthesis. He's doing really well with it. The cognitive part of him is still the weaker part and his short term memory is not so good. I saw him this morning and he told me he saw mom. Well, mom is in AZ and no, you didn't see mom. He knows his head is not right yet.

I asked the doctors and therapists to help him get trained to be more independent. He needs to learn how to ambulate on his prosthesis and do some things for himself. It's an acute facility and they don't usually do that. They don't usually get people staying there long term. The insurance company has dictated that he should get the rest of his inpatient therapy there and then go home.

Well he can't go home if he can't take himself to the bathroom! He is getting PT and they are teaching him to walk on the leg and transfer from a chair, stand up, even get him on the stairs..but he's still in a diaper and hooked up to a condom catheter because of his bedsore. (they don't want his butt to get wet)

The nurses there are not the "best". He needed changing last night and one nurse told me, Ok we'll be there in a few minutes. I went to another nurse who was reading a magazine and told her and she immediatley changed him.

So the doctor agreed to move his room closer to the nurses station because he was in the last room down the hall (easy to ignore I guess). They are going to try to have his prosthesis with him most of the day so he can get up and do somethings as he gets better at it. It's quite a challenge.

I think that just one hr of PT with the leg is not going to train him properly. They all agreed. I hope this new plan of attack works for him.

He's made such great strides..keep praying for a good and meaningful recovery.

I've been there with my Dad's rehabilitation.
Keep fighting, fighting, fighting for as much therapy as you can get now. It is such a daily battle

My dad tells me that I should go once a week and not as much as I do. You have to keep an eye on things..it's hard to explain.

Now, I was on the phone with my dad and he was talking about selling the condo and he thinks his boss heard him. He's worried about being let go before he gives notice..I think that could be good since he could get unemployment.

He's worried about it.

The progress he has made is incredible and lot's of for the future hurdles he will have to overcome.

we just listed the condo with another realtor, one that will advertise!

We lost some time but the other broker was listing it at $20K over what he should have. He didn't pull comps until after I asked him to.

I don't need to pay someone if I tell them how to do their job.

We will rent the condo for now so I can get mom and dad here asap.

I need their help. I'm becoming physically ill now from the stress. It's too much for one person.

It IS too much for one person. You are an unbelieveable person. It's truly amazing what you are doing for your brother. What is even more amazing is that you still have an incredible amount of compassion and spare prayers for others. You are an inspiration.

I hope you catch somewhat of a break - You need to take care of yourself, too!

It's become more apparent to me now how much I need. My gut has been really hurting and I've not been taking care of myself. Not to mention that I haven't been able to do overtime at my job that is part of my hours so I'm losing $$. So our savings plan is on hold right now.

I know I can't ruin my life over this. once my parents are here they will help somewhat. I am now dealing with the doctors and the info the disability paperwork needs. I just had a doosey of a conversation with a person from one of the doctor's offices. I almost called her a C You Next Tuesday. KWIM?

I'm a tic tac away!!!

Once things are settled with my parents I know things will be better personally.

I still need to live my life..Fred will be ok. It will be rough for them living with him, but they are his parents. Hopefully, he will eventually live on his own, maybe even with his son in a year or so again.

I was going to post the info about the run-in I had with the doc office but I don't know who reads this stuff.
