Freaking out Updated
I’ve been sick for awhile now and lost a ton of weight almost 30 lbs in total and I’m now 95lbs (ulcerative colitis) This morning I woke up and my bottom front tooth is loose I have a dentist apt at 1 I’m petrified of the dentist What if they have to pull it What if my bones aren’t strong enough for an implant I’m literally having a nervous breakdown Maybe some prayers it can be saved Ugh I’m a mess
Thank you all!! Sooo I do have two loose teeth, they took xrays and see I am at the beginning stages of bone loss, I am def malnourished these days. The colitis is so bad that I’m only allowed certain foods and am not getting enough nutrients. I’m calling Monday for a nutritionist because I need help. The plan with the dentist is a deep cleaning She said she sees a ton of build up (sorry tmi but since I’m so scared of the dentist I haven’t had a cleaning in 10 years, I really thought my fancy sonic toothbrush was good enough, shame on me) so a deep clean and then bond them. I’m still confused but will see what happens. I’m glad they didn’t jump to pull them. I go Monday for the deep clean Again thanks everyone have a great weekend and take care of your teeth :)

Re: Freaking out
I get your fears. If your bones aren’t strong enough for an implant, you can do other things.
I believe I read something that said that losing your teeth fear is based on getting older.
Just go to the dentist and tell your fears. They will be helpful. I also wouldn’t be so quick to pull out the tooth and ask the dentist what your other options are.
Also get the sweet air if you can. It will relax you.

Re: Freaking out
sending positive vibes.
Probably from the colitis, you are lacking something.
Hoping you feel better soon!

Re: Freaking out
I'm so sorry you are going through this. I have Crohn's Disease so I feel your pain. I always joke that I get every symptom except weight loss and it's the only one I want. But I know it is not a laughing matter. You must be exhausted. I know it's easier said than done but try not to worry about the unknown. Get the info from your dentist. Also let your gastro doctor know what s going on if they don't already. It's so important to keep all your medical caretakers informed. I know how scared and frustrated you must be. Prayers for you and hope everything works out and you start feeling better soon. Reach out at any time for support. I know how lonely these kind of illnesses can be.

I always wanted to lose some weight but never this much or like this :( I’m sorry you have Chrons, I feel your pain It’s extremely lonely Off topic from the dentist but it seems no one gets it. My friends seem to have slowly disappeared and others think oh it must be so nice to stay home! It’s miserable Back to the dentist I’m a nervous wreck! Thank you all for your responses I’m trying to breathe but ugh I’m scared I’m praying they don’t pull it there HAS to be another option Thank you all for your responses I’ll update later my apt is at 1 :(

Re: Freaking out
It sounds like you are malnourished due to your illness. Not what you want to hear but my SIL had gastric bypass some years ago and it was done wrong. Long story short, she is severely malnourished and is losing teeth left and right. I do think you need to see some drs and get some help quickly before you get any sicker. But I'm sure you already know this.
I am so sorry you are going through this. From someone with dental issues, I completely understand your fear. Dentists can do a lot these days, so don't panic before you have to.
Hoping your dentist appointment is going well

Re: Freaking out
I just wanted to let you know that even if you have to get an implant, they can do bone grafting if there is not enough bone. I had to have two done due to eventually losing two teeth due to childhood accidents.

Yes they told me my bone had detoriated a lot in the area of the tooth I had to have pulled so they would have done a bone graft had I gone with an implant.

Re: Freaking out
As someone with HORRIBLE teeth I can completely relate. I have horrible gum recession in the front of my mouth (two top front teeth) and the suggestion was that I get metal bracket braces for six months to do a forced eruption so they could essentially pull the teeth and then do implants and a gum graft. And they didn't know if there was enough bone for the implants in which case I would need a bridge. I said absolutely no way. I would rather live with the gum recession and I got Invisalign instead hoping that they can straighten them and possibly do a graft.
All I can say is, if they suggest pulling it and getting an implant get a couple more opinions. As someone with a lot of experience with dental work I can tell you that I have had costly procedures suggested to me that I found out later were completely unnecessary. Unfortunately there are some bad dentists who will rip you off because they are looking to make money. I thought I was being cynical but then a friend who is a dentist told me dentists are some of the biggest crooks out there.

Read your update and I'm glad your Dentist has come up with a plan. You have really been through the ringer - this is the last thing you need now :( I'm really sorry. I hope the nutritionist can help. If you don't click with him/her, don't give up. So many nutritionists have different approaches to diet, you may just have to find the right fit for you.
When you go for your deep cleaning, ask them to use that numbing gel on your gums first. It helps with the sensitivity. And make your 6 month cleaning appointment as you are leaving. I do that to keep me going no matter what. Also consider getting a waterpic. After the cleaning your mouth will be fresh and plaque free. Between brushing, flossing and the waterpic, each dental cleaning gets easier and easier.

Thank you so much, such good advice You really always have such good advice and I really appreciate it. Definitely getting numbing gel there is no way I can handle a deep clean! You would think with all my pain I could handle this but when it comes to anything teeth related I am the worlds biggest wuss! Hope you are feeling well these days Have a great weekend
