Franklin Square

My friend is interested in a home in Franklin Square, and from what I know it is not such a great town to live in. Is my information wrong?

Please tell me all you know about Franklin Square.
Thanks,
Scott

Re: Franklin Square

We have friends that bought there, and they say their community is very nice. They both work in the city so its pretty close, so thats definitely a plus. Other than that sorry, I don't know anything more I just wanted to tell you that from what I know it seems like a nice town. Chat Icon

I totally agree!

I live in Franklin Square and LOVE it! If the houses weren't so DAMN EXPENSIVE I would buy here in a heartbeat!
The section we currently live in is (we would say) the best in the neighborhood. Very, very quiet and safe.

Re: Franklin Square

I worked at the high school for several years & thought it was a very nice town, nice families, good kids. I thought the entire school district- K-12- was very good. There were a lot of families that owned their own businesses, fewer that commuted into the city or had corporate jobs. LIRR is super close (walking distance from one of the neighborhoods), has a small little downtown area with a few stores & is close to Garden City. Many smaller houses, some bigger ones, generally small plots of land. Nice neighborhood feeling.

I've lived North of the Tpke...blah...
I've lived two & three blocks South of the Tpke...Ok..
But now I live in the Dogwood section...where all the ranches are...VERY nice. I highly recommend it. I believe the High School in this section is Valley Stream North not Carey.
This is the section with all of the ranches....like theses....

This one is down the road from me

Re: Franklin Square

Franklin Square is nice. I grew up there and Mom still lives there. Lots of families stay through the generations. I like the area south of the tpke between franklin ave. and nassau blvd./off of dogwood ave. there is a nice part right off of garden city south too.

Re: Franklin Square

How about the area to the left of Franklin ave.

My friend is interested in a house and the area is off Hempstead tpke past dunkin donuts and near the sunoco gast station on hempstead tpke - south of hempstead tpke and closer to Elmont.....

Re: Franklin Square

My wife used to rent an apartment in a house a few years back in Franklin Squre. I know the area very well b/c I used to visit my wife all the time and I used to drive around the area a lot. IMO, the homes in franklin square are way, way over priced. The schools are just ok, land is very limited, with houses practically on top of one another with very little back yard space. West Hempstead, which is right next store, is a better option for your money.

Some of those prices of houses blew my mind! IMO, not worth it at all. JMO, dont mean to offend anyone.

Re: Franklin Square

My entire family lives in Franklin Square and my parents live in North Valley Stream (which literally borders Franklin Square by a few houses)

The heart of Franklin Square is a really cute area. Very Italian. Some of the houses there are really nice and I don't think it's a bad neighborhood at all. A few blocks down from where my parents live is starting to turn a little which is why they are going to look to move within the next couple of years.

Re: Franklin Square

My friend is set on buying this home. They are asking $525 but he is getting it for $515k. It is a split level, and it has a rental apartment in it. I dont think anything I could say would change his mind. He said the area around it is really nive and the houses are all redone.....He looked at a few open houses over there and all the homes were over $525k.....

Actually I just looked at the map for the house and it is not even close to hempstead tpke. I think he gave me the wrong directions. The house seems to be closer to the dunkin donuts and the sunoco gastation on franklin ave near the big pathmark

Hey Scott...if you're heading South on Franklin is the house on the left or the right? I would advise staying to the left of Franklin if heading South.
Like many have said this is a very Italian neighborhood...it also has a "bubble" around it, which to me makes it feel very safe considering the surrounding areas.

ETA: This area is known for illegal apts. Tell your friend to be careful if it is illegal because they are cracking down quite a bit in the area...We know first hand because we rec'd a notice on our house 4 mths before the wedding. It happened to be a blessing in disquise because we're in a much bigger and better apt for the same $$.

I agree with this. I may be biased, because I am from West Hempstead, but I think while parts of Franklin Sqaure are nice, it is overpriced. The school district in West Hempstead is about the same performance wise and the high school has fewer students than any of the high schools in Franklin Square.

Re: Franklin Square

Supposedly the apartment is legal with the proper permits.

The house would be on the same side as Pathmark
