forward facing carseat
Did anyone turn dc at 20 lbs even if they were under a year? If so, how old? I know the new reccomendation is 2 years but I can't take the hysterical screaming EVERYTIME she's in the car from the second she gets in till the second she gets out

No...cause the requirement as per 'most' seats are 20lbs AND 1 YEAR old.

No since my DD's weren't 20 lbs before 1 year. With my oldest, we turned her at exactly 1 year even though she was only 14 lbs, my littlest peanut. But we did so all after talking with the ped and going over the recommendations.

Weight is almost irrelevant. It's the maturity of the neck muscles that is important. If DC's neck muscles and spine aren't mature enough, that's what causes the most damage in an accident. A 21lb 10 month old doesn't have a stronger and more mature neck than a 19lb 13mo.

Its not a requirement. It s a recommendation.. If you are comfortable turning your child around then do it.. Can't ask what others think because it is going to turn into a huge debate..You can forward face in a convertible car seat at anytime..

No,
Logan was 20 lbs around 4 months old so there is no way we were switching him.
He's 19 months now and still RF.
As PP mentioned, it's 20 lbs AND one year and the new recommendation is actually 2 years old.

Nope. To be honest, they would probably scream forward facing too.
They don't like being confined,...they don't usually don't care which way they face.
And if she screams, so be it.
I'd rather her be safer.
She'll get over it.

You're absolutely right. I actually don't think there are ANY laws at all that require babies to EVER be rear facing.
But keep in mind they have those recommendations based on research where real children have sustained horrific injuries being forward facing before their neck and spines fully develop.
Everyone then has the right to take in all the information and recommendations and do what they feel is best for their child.
FWIW, my DD is almost 20 months and she is still rear facing and will stay that way until at least 2.

There is no law for NYS that ever requires that you RF your child (there are st
ates that do specify RF or FF)........
BUT.....
There is a proper use clause in those laws. So Marcie is correct here when she states that the requirement for most seats is 1 AND 20. If the seat has no requirement (most do have it), you can FF it at any time, legally.
The AAP and NHTSA recommend that you wait until 2. The actual recommendation was to RF to the limits of the seats since about 2002ish, with 1 & 20 as a bare minimum. Clarification is one of the reasons they updated the recommendation.
I did all the research, including reading actual accident data that some of the research is based on, and decided to RF my children as long as I could. DD1 is still RF at 3.5 because she still can. Parental decision and all that. I'm actually torn on whether or not I want to FF her when we move DD2 to a convertible seat next month because of all the research I did.
It's normal for kids to start to fuss in the car when they start being mobile. They just don't like being strapped down and ANYTHING different will usually help.
Sometimes, ANY change will help. Adjusting the angle of the seat can be helpful (nearly all seats allow for being as upright as 30 degrees). Or, if you have the seat upright, the child may want it reclined a little more (45 degrees max). Changing the location of the seat. If you're in the center, try outboard. Soft toys, change in music (classical or kid's music), talking to them, singing to them... most kids outgrow it... some just never like the car regardless of RF/FF.

is she still in the infant car seat ? they strart to look pretty cramped in there after a while.
maybe switching her to the convertible but RF would help ?
