Formula Questions (Long)
DD is 5 1/2 mos and I'm transitioning her to formula. I'm not producing much and have my first work trip next month so I figured it was time.
She only gets a bottle before bed given by DH and I nurse the rest of her feedings. Last night we gave her an 8 oz bottle, 7 oz bm, 1 oz formula. She drank 4 ozs, then puked. Then she drank an additional oz with me. I'm not particularly concerned she didn't finish. She left a couple ozs the night before too. I figure some nights she is more/less hungry.
My plan is to add an oz of fm to her bm every night until it is a full bottle of formula.
My questions:
1. I know formula is thicker than bm, so will she drink less formula or it shouldn't matter?
2. Once I've given her a full bottle of formula can I start giving her more bottles of formula? I want to go gradual with the night bottle to get her used to formula but I don't give her other bottles of bm b/c I don't have a stash and am not producing that much. Basically, is it ok to give additional bottles of formula when I've only really given her the one bottle of formula at night?
3. Does anyone give full bottles of formula, still nurse and pump? I still want to nurse.
4. Is a bottle of formula warmed up the same way as bm? Also, I know once you open formula it needs to be refrigerated within an hr b/c of the short shelf life. If I warm up a bottle of formula, does it need to be drunk in an hr and then thrown out?
Oouf, lots of questions and rambling. Sorry! Thanks in advance and for listening. I know, I'm probably overthinking it.

1 - 8oz seems to be alot to be feeding the 5 1/2 month old. Maybe burp her more with the formula in the bm.
2 - When I nursed my 1st ds i gave formula as well as bm - there is no worries with that. Esp if baby has been taking formula ok before
3 - see 2
4 - Open formula needs to be refrigerated. If the baby drinks from the bottle it should be used within the hour. If you heat a bottle and baby doesn't drink right away no it doesn't go bad after an hour. You can put bag in fridge or keep out for I would say up to 2 hours.

I don't know that I have any answers for you, but wanted to say that 8 oz for an almost 6 month old is not a lot, especially before bed. DS was taking that and sttn at that age, and even earlier, actually.

To answer your first question I think your LO will drink more formula just because the flow from a bottle is quicker than the flow from a boob.

I'm also thinking possible reasons for the throwing up could be because they drank too much or they need a different type of formula. Maybe try a sensitive version.

I don't know that I have any answers for you, but wanted to say that 8 oz for an almost 6 month old is not a lot, especially before bed. DS was taking that and sttn at that age, and even earlier, actually.
She's had 8 ozs before, so it's not the amount. Some nights she is just more/less hungry.

Formula type is ok. We started her on solids almost 3 weeks ago and mix the oatmeal with formula so she could start getting used to the taste.
She puked after 4 ozs, which is definitely not a lot for her. I think she may have drunk it too fast. DH told me she was drinking it very quickly initially.
One day at a time. Sigh.
