Formula feeding and nursing - who did both?
After an awful experience nursing my first dc, I decided I wouldn't stress myself out this time around with DC #2. Therefore I am nursing 2-3x a day and formula feeding the remaining feedings.
I'm a bit engorged, and am using ice packs, cabbage leaves, a few quick nursing sessions to make sure I don't develop mastitis (it happened the first time).
IDEALLY -I am interested in having a supply enough for a couple of feedings. Did anybody else do this or was able to successfully accomplish this?
I feel like I need some support in that I want to do for #2 what I did for #1 but without the prrssure and anxiety that nursing caused for ME the first time. **even with two sessions all of her poops are seedy!

I am doing both, but my supply tanked and can only pump about 3oz and dd takes 5...but I was able to save up a lot of bm in the first month so that helps

I am now trying to do this. I was BFing during the day and FF at night for about three weeks, we also had problems at the beginning and had to supplement. Now I am trying to get to 2 nursings a day - am and evening - I am nursing and then pumping after to build up supply at those times and regulate. Just started trying that this week. Rest of the time DS gets formula.

Re: Formula feeding and nursing - who did both?
I'm doing both, but only because I was so stressed breastfeeding. A lot of things were making it hard on me, but worst was DS was nursing slowly and by the time he was done, it was time for another feeding. I was exhausted and started formula at night.
I gave my first bottle of formula in tears, because I wanted so much to only EBF. Now I'm more laxed and give it whenever I need a break.
When I was engorged, I put heat packs on my breasts and pumped like crazy. I gave DS pumped milk during that time. The pain went a way in a day and half. I pump a lot and its saved me.
DS seems to need a lot more milk now than ever and I'm actually worried about my supply during the day breastfeedings I do.
From what I understand the best way to deal with mastitis is to pump through it.
If you don't want to breastfeed too often would you be open to pumping? The more I pumped the easier it became to breast feed. It made me so much more relaxed about the whole process. I wish I pumped from day one!
