For those who pee constantly...

how the heck do you hold it in for a sonogram? I'm almost 16 weeks. I seem to have such a small bladder now. I have a sono this afternoon and I'm supposed to have a full bladder. The instructions say to drink 16 oz. 1 hour before the appointment and don't go to the bathroom. When I usually have a sono, I just drink a bunch of water right before the appointment. This time, I got specific instructions about drinking/peeing before the appointment. I don't know if I'll be able to make it that long, but I'll try. Chat Icon

I couldn't do it. I was suppose to have a full bladder when I went for my Level II at 20 weeks but I was dying and I had to pee before I went in. They were still able to see everything they needed to. Good news to look forward to..........once your far enough along they don't require you to keep a full bladder. I am almost 29 weeks and had a sono yesterday and they said I didn't need to have a full bladder anymore when I come in. THANK GOD!!!!!!!

Re: For those who pee constantly...

That's good to know. They never said anything to me before this sono, but since I'm having an anatomy scan, I assume that's why they want to make sure I have a full bladder.

I never had to have a full bladder for a sono. Personally, I would NEVER be able to do it, but I was never required to.

Good luck to both of you!! It's so hard to hold your pee for the anatomy scan because it's like a good 30-40min. Like I said, I caved and had to pee. I was in pain from holding it in!! Enjoy though, it's a great sono!! You see a lot!!

The tech spent at least 30 minutes taking measurements and looking at various things at my ultrascreen. When they wrote down my appointment for this scan, they gave me a sono time and scheduled my appointment with the doctor for 15 minutes later. I thought that this was going to be a longer sono than 15 minutes, but I guess I'll find out soon.

The tech usually asks if I want to empty my bladder right before the sono. Hopefully, she'll do that this time.

Whatever machine they have is capable of giving me 3D pictures b/c the tech always prints some of those out for me to take home.

What was bad about the old school machine?

My Ultrascreen was so quick, maybe a few minutes. They didn't tell me to hold my pee for that one, although it would've been easy to at 12 weeks!! Chat Icon My Level II was long though so I wouldn't have made it!! I would've pee'ed on the table!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: For those who pee constantly...

I have never been told to come in with a full bladder. I am having my 20 week appt next week & no told me to come in with a full bladder. Actually, the first thing I have to do everytime I go is give a urine sample.

Re: For those who pee constantly...

I wasn't told to have a full bladder for any of the sonograms. I'm pretty sure I was told to empty before going into the room.

I've never had to have a full bladder either. I wonder why it's different from Dr. to Dr.

Not all doctors and sono techs have the same equipment. My doctor's office has three different kinds/types of machines each with different technology and sensitivity.

Re: For those who pee constantly...

Update: There was no way I was going to make it. I lasted until about 30 minutes before my appointment. Chat Icon I tried to drink a lot more water to make up for it. Of course, that made me have to go again. It was fine though. The tech was able to get all of the measurements. Chat Icon

I only had to have a full bladder for the first sono, thank goodness. I was about to burst, especially because the doc was pushing directly on my belly so hard to find the little bean. I swear as soon as she was done I leaped off the table and ran. Chat Icon Chat Icon Glad everything worked out today!

The tech was running about 15 minutes behind. I was so uncomfortable so I asked the receptionist if I could use the bathroom while I was waiting. Then, my bladder must have filled up again b/c as soon as the tech was done, she said she thinks I need to use the bathroom again. Maybe she saw my full bladder on the sono. Chat Icon Chat Icon
