For those who had early contractions...
when did you actually have your baby? I've been having contractions since 27 weeks (32 weeks now) and they are pretty frequent (at a minimun several an hour, up to every 3-4 min). I've been in the hospital twice, had a neg. fetal fibronectin 3 weeks ago and am waiting for the results from the one I had done yesterday. I'm not dilating so it's not labor, but they keep telling me our goal is 36 weeks. I'm just curious if anyone who has had this delivered early or if this is just something that will continue until the end (or later  ).

I had the same thing (I had excess fluid though) and I also ended up in the triage of L&D several times for mine. My FfN was also negative. Mine started on and off around 27 weeks. Honestly I was 1 cm and 50% for weeks. They kept telling me each visit I could go anytime - starting around 32 weeks - I finally went into labor and had DD at 38w 4 d. I was on modified bed rest though - b.c I got most of mine when I was walking. So I was told to keep off my feet - I could go out to dinner, sit at home etc but no shopping or walking more than a short distance.

i started with braxton hicks around 32-33 weeks and didnt go into active labor till 41 weeks

I had something similar happen. I made 4 or 5 trips to L&D to stop contractions, had NSTs done weekly, and FFNs done twice.
To help the contractions slow down, I was prescribed brethine (terbutaline). I had to pop the pills every 6 hours everyday until I reached term. Within a few days of stopping the pills, DS arrived! Even though it helped keep DS in until I reached term, the downside is that it makes your heart and baby's heart race like crazy! I was hesitant to take the pills, but the OB said the benefits outweigh the risks.

I had contractions very early but never knew that they were contractions. I had what I though was just pressure at about 32 weeks. It turns out I was having irregular contractions ( felt like period cramps ) I went to the DR for and internal at 35 weeks and was already dilated 2 cm. I was then put on modified bed rest at home and finally had DS at 37 weeks ( I was 5 cm dilated at that time ) but could have had him earlier by my OB wanted to wait if we could until 37 weeks.

Yeah I had the terbutaline and that was not fun!! I was SO shakey after it, hoping to avoid being on that for any long period of time!
Thanks everyone for all your experiences. It's scary having no idea why this is happening. I mean I have heard of braxton hicks, but these are just so much more frequent then I thought BH were.

Yup, mine definately pick up when I'm on my feet (although once they start they usually don't go away when I lay down). I stopped working 3 weeks ago and really have to make an effort to stay off my feet which hasn't been easy for me!!

I stopped working end of april and didn't have DD until 6/20. It is hard - but I went onto the computer, read books, etc (we even moved 3 weeks before she was due). No mine took a while to go away after walking which is why I had the modified bed rest. I went out to an occasional meal out or friends homes to sit - it got me out without a lot of walking. I just didn't do shopping or errands, or work. I was commuting to NYC and pretty much had to walk to and from Penn of part of the way b/c of my office location.
It is hard but you catch up on movies, books, internet, talk with friends - try a new hobby - whatever it takes to keep busy - I was hating it at first but then honestly my friends reminded me that it was good b.c once the baby comes you won't have that rest again and so appreciate it now - it will be the most relaxing and sleep you will get for a few years (JK). Many people work until right up to their due date with only a few days off - and don't get the chance to rest beforehand. You could always make something for the baby - if you are handy. The key is to have something planned to do - so you aren't bored - even if it means sitting on the couch or bed.

i started contracting very early, probably around 20 weeks or so, but i didn't really know what they were until 25 weeks, when i was hospitalized. i basically contracted every few minutes 24/7, despite terbutaline, nifedipine and 2 more hospitalizations where they tried more aggressively to stop the contractions. i was put on bed rest for 8 weeks and that didn't stop them either. finally at 36 weeks they let me off bed rest and took me off all meds and said to let nature take its course.
my fetal fibronectins were always negative. i started dilating/effacing at 36 weeks, and ended up being 3cm dilated and 100% effaced for at least 2 weeks.
i ended up giving birth at 39 weeks, 4 days!
ETA: the official term for what i had is "irritable uterus"...

Same thing happened to me, but at 28 weeks. FFNs kept on coming up neg, but I got the shot to stop the contractions I think 3 times...they kept on saying that 36 weeks was the magic number. I ended up having him on my due date

ETA- I was signed out of work at 34 works, so Im thinking that this helped keep him in a little longer.

I had contractions at 27 weeks with a positive FFN test. I was put on complete bedrest and had DD at 38 weeks, 1 day.

I was having them every 2 minutes and "got terbed" with no stopping them. It got to the point where they said not to come back to L&D unless they were 1 minute apart. It was fine, I got induced and had an easy labor. I didn't even think contractions were bad until 6cm or so.
I was working as an intern so I was on my feet and dehydrated most of the time so that is where the contractions probably came from. The whole ending up in L&D multiple times was embarrassing. They almost put me on bedrest. If I had a normal job I'm sure I would have stayed home. Instead I got moved to a less physical rotation.
