For those that used Gas Drops for your LO
If they worked for your LO how quickly did you see it work?
DD has such painful gas and cries for 1-3 hours at night. The doctor called it 3 month colic (DD is 3 weeks old). I was inconsistently giving her the drops...and just started yesterday giving them before every feeding. I don't want to continue giving them to her if they are not working for her.....so just seeing how long I should give it before I should move on and try something else like a new bottle. We currently use Dr Browns which are supposed to be the best for gas....but may try the platex drop ins next. I only want to try one thing at a time to see what really works or not.

my DD is about the same age as yours.
what formula are you using? we started on Similac Advance and quickly went to Sensitive due to gas. It didn't get much better even with the new formula, gas drops in all bottles and gripe water if she was still fussy after a bottle (though gripe water seemed to help more than anything).
We ended up switching from wide neck drop ins to standard ventaire and we saw the biggest difference there with gas. We had to change to Alimentum anyway but the biggest helps for us were gripe water when she get fussy and switching OFF the wide neck bottles.

For those that used Gas Drops for your LO
It should work almost instantly. I agree with maymama about the formula too, Similac Sensitive also worked for DD.
Also, 3 weeks is the start of the first major growth spurt, so your DD may be inconsolable even if the gas drops are helping. I wouldn't dismiss anything as "not working" until you get over the 3 week growth spurt.

I am pumping and giving BM through bottle and BF when she's in the mood to do so. I only give 2-3 oz of enfamil gentleease at night. So I don't think enough formula to be impacting her.
Is ventaire the brand of bottle you found helpful?
Also she's been like this since about week 2. Is it ok to give drops before a bottle and gripe water shortly after? I don't know how closely together they can be given or not

The gas drops seem to work almost immediately for us.
Could your LO have acid reflux? The gas drops won't help with that.
We hold her with her belly across our arms and that seems to be the best position for her. Also, each time we change her, we lift up her legs a bit, like a reverse crunch and it helps her pass gas.
Edited to add: we had bad problems with gas from weeks 4-5. Now this past week 6, she seems A LOT better. So I am hoping it is something she is growing out of a little bit. We will see.

I put them in every bottle. The Dr said they dont do anything so I stopped. she cried with gas to I started again- no issues. He said its just food so I wasnt too worried about giving her meds since they aren't realy med meds.
Is the crying only at a certain point at night? Could be witching hour. Both DDs had this at night and they just had to outgrow it. One DD has milk protein allergy and went the similac sensative to aliumentum route and is on axid for pain from minor reflux. She wasnt colicky though. She would grunt and arch during feedings.

How would you know if they had reflux?
It's usually the same time of night that she screams. She literally stretches out her legs and tries to crawl up you because of the gas. And followed by one or two really big poops. But on the diarrea side with the watery yellow poop. Over the seedy poop.
I'm trying to stick it out with breast milk over switching to formula

Try cutting dairy from your diet and give it 1-2 weeks to see a diffrrence. Is she like this at all during the day?
My dd did this and it turned out she had a milk intolerance. Put her on alimentum and it made a world of difference. Its hypoallegenic gormula that is not milk based.
Reflux symptoms are spitting up, crying after spitting up, eating all the time because the milk id a natural antacid OR the opposite barely drinking or crying while dtinking because they associate eating with pain, arching oc bavk

For those that used Gas Drops for your LO
I have to tell you DD was exactly the same. She is 11 weeks now. It's gotten better with time. My ped said the gas drops work about 50% of the time which has pretty much been my experience...

My doctor recommended gentle formula with gas drops in every bottle. It worked! We don't even use gas drops in every bottle now. It just takes some time for the GI tract to develop.

My ped said my DD was too young for true reflux - at 5 weeks although I know a lot of others were diagnosed this young.
With reflux, there are some different symptoms - baby seems better when sitting upright, it should happen after most if not all feedings, etc.
A certain amount of reflux is natural and I think this is what my DD had. This combined with gas. We are still working through it but I would say weeks 4-5 were a lot worse then week 6.
Another potential problem of witching hour is being over tired. How is your LO sleeping during the day? DD is a nightmare if she is overtired. Make sure LO is not awake for more than 2 hours at a time.
The football hold and reverse crunches really seem to soothe her when she has gas.
Breastmilk is supposedly better for gas then formula - so I've heard.
Some gassy foods could bother baby - I've cut out broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, etc and she seems to be doing better, but not sure if this is because of my diet?
 This is hard, I'm still in the thick of it too.

same here with boy twin
weeks 3-7 he screamed a lot..we switched formula,did the gas drops in every bottle,gripe water,bike kicks etc
i think time is what helped the most but i am not sure bc i did not bf
but maybe try a diff formula to substitute at night
