For those that have gotten dental implants, another Q...
I posted a few months ago inquiring about dental implants, I just have another question for those that went through the process...
So in February I had a tooth extracted and had bone grafting done, the oral surgeon told me that I would have to wait until June to put in the actual implant because the bone needs time to heal. So i've been wearing an annoying flipper in the meantime. I have my appointment to go back the first week of June for a consult to see if I can get the implant put in. I was told that once the implant is in, I have to wait another 4 months to get the crown put on.... so I guess my question is, once they put the implant in, what goes over it, a temporary crown? Or do you just continue wearing the flipper? Also what was the recovery time from putting the implant in? I have a vacation scheduled for the last week of June so I was wondering if I should schedule the implant surgery for after I come back or if I get it done mid June, if I would be OK/healed and pain free by the time my vacation rolls around..
TIA!!

Just finished 2 implants on the upper right. After the "screws" go in, there was nothing there for me (it was far enough back that you didn't see, so no flipper for me). It was stitched up and then I waited 4-6 months for that to heal.
Once that was done, I went back and then put some kind of screw in, take impressions and then I left there that day with 2 little nubs/caps over the exposed screw and waited two weeks for the lab to make the teeth. I got them inserted in a few minutes once they came in.
To me, I never had any pain, I did bleed a little when they opened the gum up to put the screws in. That healed fast.

Once the implant is in, they take an impression for a temporary. You may have to wear the flipper for another two weeks until the temp comes in. Then they will put the temp in and you will wear that a few months until the permanent comes in. My daughter is wearing the temp right now and has an apt tonight for the permanent.
