For those familiar with Babylon Village...Weird traffic pattern question.
This is such a weird question, but I was in Babylon Village today, and there is a spot just north of the RR on Deer Park Rd, right by the Lily Flanagans. There is a light, and it is a one lane road. However, right at the light, going south, there is suddenly another lane, only about 2 car lengths long, on the right side. The normal lane has an arrow in it, so you can go straight or make a left. SO many people jam their cars into that one random lane and try to cut off the cars in the normal lane. This bugs the CRAP out of me, and I am over there several times a week. If you were in the awkward random lane, you could only go straight for like half a second because once the light turns green there are cars parked on the side of that road. I can't count how many times I've almost been in an accident at that spot.
Does this spot drive any one else completely bonkers??? Who makes up these roads? What is the right thing to even do at that spot?

I never understood it either. I guess its so if someone is turning you can go around and not so much as a lane.

I guess so. But so many people get into the normal lane who aren't turning. I once saw a guy in the right "lane" rear end one of the parked cars in front of the barber shop, and I've seen SO many near misses there it's not even funny!!

That lane only really works if you make a right onto Park Ave if there are no cars parked at the stores there...otherwise, it makes no sense to have that second lane there.

I almost crashed there a few weeks ago
I live in the village- but rarely go that way - my nav sent me back to 231 that way - I was going to show a house in North Babylon so I just followed along- never agin!

I was just there today and was thinking the same thing! Every week I come that way from my son's class and I think about how stupid that lane is and get so annoyed by people!

It's very confusing there and if you aren't paying attention I can easily see getting into an accident. It's been like that for as long as I can remember, but I don't get it - any potential benefit is outweighed by the chaos it causes.

I know that exact intersection you are talking about. It doesn't make much sense.
I would never want to park in that first spot on the right for fear of someone slamming into the back of my car without realizing it was actually parked there!
Don't make it 2 lanes, and just leave it with enough room for a car to pass on right if someone is making a left...like at normal intersections.....

Yep, know the spot very well. It is an annoying setup but I almost always go into that right lane. If not, you're stuck forever in the left lane b/c a car is trying to turn left onto John St.
