Typically, how long does your baby nurse for at each feeding? Did the duration change a lot depending on their age?

DD on average will feed for 10 minutes. The first few weeks of nursing she fed for a half hour. Which one is more typical? I should add she is 6w old as age may be a factor.

Re: For nursing mothers

My daughter had long nursing sessions the first few months. Over time it decreased as she became a more efficient nurser. My son always was a fast nurser from day one. He nursed for 2-8 minutes at a time every 2-3 hours the whole 2 years he nursed.

At that age dd would nurse for about 15-20 mins on each side - but I use the term "nurse" loosely bc at that age she wouldn't be eating the entire time
She eventually got to 8-10 mins each and did that until I stopped nursing her at 7 months

By 6 wks, my DD nursed about 10min on each side. Age definitely plays a factor, now at 10mo, she's done in 5min most times. She's also super distracted. She nurses a bit longer when she's tired though.

My 8 wk old takes 45 min to an hour. She's a very sleepy nurser. Most times I don't mind because she's so snugly, but its not exactly convenient.

Same here, only my little guy is 6 1/2 weeks. He would nurse ALLLLLLL DAYYYY if I let him! At this point he nurses every 2-3 hours during the day.

For the first month or so, my twins would nurse 30-45min each and ate every 2-3 hours. They are now 3 months and nurse for 10-15min every 2.5-4 hours. I feed on demand, so sometimes they eat every 2.5 hours and sometimes they can go longer. I would just follow her lead!

During the early parts of the day she's 15-20 minutes. She usually only does one boob and we 'll switch next feeding.

Around the dinner hour she's finally starting to come off of cluster feeding a bit -- but she is still on me quite a bit. Not actually eating the whole time but comfort sucking a lot but I'm completely emptied out at that time of day so I'll pass her back and forth.

At night... she is sometimes super fast. On, maybe ten minutes now, then back to sleep. Other times she'll wake up and like to play around a bit. Hopefully that's on the way out.

DD is almost 9 weeks and in the beginning, she would take a while, probably 20-25 mins on each boob. She's much quicker now. I only feed her from one side per feeding and I'd say on average she takes about 20 mins, sometimes less, sometimes more.

The last few days, she's been eating A LOT but she also sleeps quite a bit at night so I can't help wonder if she's making up for it . We average every 2-3 hours. I just take my cues from her.

Re: For nursing mothers

It really depends on the baby. DS1 nursed for 45-60 minutes as a newborn. He was always a slow nurser. He still nursed for 30 minutes as an older infant/toddler.

DS2 nursed for 20 minutes (10 minutes per side) from the beginning. He still nurses for 15-20 minutes at 15 months old.
