For girls that breastfed
Did you prep your ladies for breastfeeding? What strategies helped/worked for you.
I would love all the advise you can give because I am determined to breastfeed. Two of my friends said they tried and couldnt do it. I know it s not for everyone but I am determined!! TIA!!

Re: For girls that breastfed
I didn't do anything to prepare...I didn't even get to see the lactation consultant in the hospital because I delivered on a Friday and left Sunday...I did talk to the nurses at the hospital because my daughter would only nurse in the cradle position on one side and needed me to lay down in order to nurse on the other...I think being determined to giving it the best shot you can is important...

I didn't do anything to prepare them. I went to a breastfeeding class that the hospital offered, but thats it. They were sore for maybe 3-4 days, but the Lansinoh nipple cream really helped.

Re: For girls that breastfed
I didn't do anything special to prepare myself. I did go to a free breastfeeding class at the hospital which was very informative. I also asked for as much help as I could get while I was in the hospital. The beginning may be difficult as far as getting the latch correctly and getting your supply to adjust so don't be afraid to ask a nurse or a lactation consultant for help.
I breastfed for two years after having a bit of trouble in the beginning. If you ever have any questons or would like any advice, feel free to FM me.

Re: For girls that breastfed
I have never breastfed [since this is my 1st baby] but I tried doing a bit of research online last week. Initially, I kept reading that a woman should toughen up her nipples for weeks prior to giving birth. You do this by pulling at your nips, rubbing them with a washcloth, etc. for about 10 mins. a day. The school of thought is that the nipples won't crack and bleed if this is done. I read this on two other pregnancy sites- I can't remember which ones though.
I then went to La Leche League's website, since I have heard that they are the people to get info from. On their site, they stated that no 'roughing up' is necessary. I'm gonna stick with LLL on that one.
Like you, I am determined to make it work. I plan on getting some books on the subject soon.
