For DIY Gardeners:How to plant bulbs
I have all these bulbs and I know that I have to plant them asap for fall plantings. I am a bit scared to mess up. I ordered different bulbs so that they bloom at different times during spring. I ordered crocus, hyacinth, tulips, daffodils and peonies. The breeds of the ones I bought basically start blooming when another stops blooming. So here is my problem. I am worried that I will plant them too close. Tulips I believe needed to be approx 5in appart and crocus 2-3 inches aprt. The other bulbs were similar. Does that mean I need to plant the tulips 5in from each other AND all other plants or just from another tulip bulb. From what I read and was told-I can put other bulbs (like crocus) in between them. I just worry about the bulbs overcrowding though technically they will bloom at different times. HELP!

They didnt come with instructions? All the ones I bought explained depth, how far away to plant each and when to plant them.

Depth is important to get close (or right). I have never payed attention to the width for bulbs because they don't last forever, and I like the look of clustered bulbs.
I know why they suggest it but it's just one rule that I don't really follow.

I agree that depth is more important. Don't worry too much about spacing -- clustered bulbs look more natural than perfectly spaced ones anyway, IMO.

Thanks for the tip. That totally makes sense. I really wanted the crocu super close and clustered. I wanted the same for all of them actually. As long as I am not suffocating them. Great tip! My DH has a lot to do this weekend lol- this preggo can't bend over for too long!
