Food shopping for the first time...
When you first moved into your new home or apt., what were the basic things you bought when food shopping for the first time?
I'm going shopping with my friend and he needs to start from scratch. I'm helping by making a list.

it was so long ago, but I'd start with cleaning supplies and herbs and spices - one or two a week, because they add up fast

Condiments (ketchup, mustard, mayo, bbq sauce, hot sauce)
Spices (or get a spice rack)
Oil
Vinegar (red wine & balsamic)
Flour
Sugar
Pasta
Canned tomatoes
Tuna
Cereal
Perishable:
eggs
milk
bread
cold cuts
meat
fresh veggies
fruit

Paper products - toilet paper, paper towels, napkins. Although that may not count for food shopping.
I did paper products & cleaning supplies at Target.
For food -
salad dressings
some frozen food that's easy to make while getting settled

We spent SOOO much money the first time we food shopped when we moved in to our apartment. I would go through the ads and compare prices to get the best deals.
Cleaning supplies is a big one. Things you may forget are light bulbs, scruby sponges, Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.
