Food Questions

I have some food questions! The Dr prob told us all this our last visit a few weeks ago but I forget & we don't go back until December.....

DD is exclusively breastfed & turned 6 months last week. About 2-3 weeks ago we started giving her oatmeal in the mornings. Then earlier this week we gave her sweet peas (today was day 5). Today we gave her oatmeal in morning & peas at night. (I'm going to do veggies before fruits.) I think I'll do sweet potatoes, then maybe carrots next.

I'm wondering:
-I've been thinning oatmeal/peas with breast milk... When can I make it thicker by not adding so much?

-When can I move to foods that r more than 1 ingredient?

-when do I move on to meats?

-So far the food isn't getting rid of any "boob" feedings nor prolonging time between feedings (still every 3 hrs)... When will it affect the above?

- I'm sort of confused bc single ingredient foods say 4 months & multi-ingredient foods say 6 months but I chose to wait til 6 months to give DD solids... So multi-ingredients r ok for her bc she is over 6 months? Or not ok for her bc she hasn't been eating single ingredient solids for long enough? I know u r supposed to wait 3-4 days before trying a new food in case of reaction.

Any info/advice is appreciated! TIA!!! Chat Icon

Food Questions

1- I think you can make it thicker whenever you want. See if she likes it, if she does then go for it. I started thickening up the oatmeal for Matthew rather quickly..he didnt have any preference.
2-You can move to more than 1 ingredient foods whenever you see she has no reaction to just one of the 2 ingredient foods. For example, if she is ok with apples then you can give her apples/bananas KWIM? So, if she has a reaction you know its to the bananas and not the apples.
3-DS will be starting meats tomorrow he just turned 6mths last week.
4-For me, I noticed it replaced milk feedings about 2 weeks after starting him on solids. It may have replaced 1 or 2 feedings.
5-You can go ahead and give her multi ingredients as long as shes had at least one of the ingredients so if she has a reaction you'll know its not to the one shes already had

ITA.

We add one new ingredient at a time but I usually mix 3 or 4 foods in a meal. I usually do oatmeal thinned with water bc I hate pumping. With that, I'll give half of a stage 1 container, and then 1/3 of a banana or a cube or two of something homemade from the freezer. We've done a mix of fruits and veggies in no particular order. I think our ped said to add meats at 8 months and table foods if she takes them okay.

You can make things as thick or thin as you want and as your DC will tolerate. I think it's good for them to get a variety if they'll take it. I'll mash bananas or avocado with a fork and thin it with a little water or breastmilk but it's still a little chunky and she's fine with that.

We started at 6 months and we're about 3 weeks in and DD is still nursing 5 times a day. I just added a second meal this week but no change yet.
