food question..ped said i could
Ds had his 4 month appt, and ped said I could start with rice, then add applesauce, then banannas....
does that mean that until his 5 month appt, I can't give him anything else, until it's cleared?
kind of confused..could use some help..
like..when did you give dc carrot, or avocados?
Thanks!

Re: food question..ped said i could
I didn't start solids until the recommended 6 months old.
We started with oatmeal because I didn't want to do rice (binding). Did oatmeal for 5 days before introducing anything else.
I also didn't do any fruit until I went through most of the veggies.
I did 5 days of carrots then 5 days of peas then 5 days of sweet potatos,
so on and so on.
My DD didn't like "baby food" especially cereal, so once we started her on table food at 9 months, baby food pretty much stopped.

Re: food question..ped said i could
Our ped gave us a sheet of foods and the order to introduce them in so we just go by that. He had us do rice cereal for a week or 2 and then we switched to oatmeal. Once we knew he was ok w/the cereals we started adding 1 fruit or veggie a week in the order that he told us to. For instance, we did carrots at night for a week. The following week we did apples in the AM and carrots in the PM. The week after that we did apples in the AM and squash in the PM. After that pears in the AM and squash in the PM, etc etc I don't know if this is how everyone does it, but we just keep to the ped's schedule
ETA: We waited to introduce solids until 6m as well

Re: food question..ped said i could
Each PED is going to be different on this, I would tak to him/her for clarification.
My PED had us give DS oatmeal only for 4 weeks and then we added the jar foods starting with apples and bananas, that didn't last long because of constipation so she switched us to sweet potatoes, carrots and peaches.
FYI RIce, applesause and bananas are ALL binding, if you notice your DC having pooping issues you may want to talk to your PED about switching to oatmeal and "P" foods (peaches, prunes, peas...)
ETA: your PED probably told you this, but just in case, our PED said only 1 new food per week so you can see if baby reacts to it.

Thank you...as I understand, 6 months is recommended for babies that are exclusively breastfed. DS is on formula, and he told me to try for 3-4 days, as if allergy was present, we would know within that day. Thanks for letting me know about the constipation, I knew about the rice, but not the apples and banannas..good to know! Thanks ladies!!!

Re: food question..ped said i could
Again each ped is different. Most of all the inforamtion I have read does say 4-6 months. We introduced oatmeal at 3 months (ok by my ped) bc Ds was eating so much formula. We then where told to try solids at 4 months. DS was not interested, so we stopped and tried again about 1 week b4 he turned 5 months. As of right now, ds has has carrots, squash, sweet potatoes, pears, applesauce, peaches, and bananas.
