Food ideas

DD is 7 months and not the best eater. I use jars for daycare and when I'm in a rush for dinner (which is most of the time) so she's been exposed to most fruits and veggies. So far I've given her pastina, tomato soup and eggs (she was iffy with the eggs). I want to get her used to different textures.

She doesn't have teeth yet.

Ideas?

Whatever you're eating as long as it's not too salty. Teeth aren't required! My first was gnawing on pieces of chicken and steak, ground meat, meatballs, etc. by 8 months and didn't cut her first tooth until 10 months.

Imo if u wanna get her used to textures, the best way is offering her actual solids, pretty much the same thing u eat (no honey, whole nuts, or too much salt). Don't worry about her eating too little though, it's totally normal, she's just learning about solids and she's taking her time to appreciate flavors, smells, textures, etc. Also remember that food under 1 is just for fun, bm/formula should be the #1 source of nutrition.

DS had no teeth until 12 months. By 8-9 months, he was eating whatever we were eating.

Thanks ladies. Kind of a dumb question, but she doesn't realize she needs to chew. She'll figure this out the more I give her stuff, right? What if she chokes?!

Re: Food ideas

Check out baby-led weaning. There's some books and a website and it will answer a lot of your concerns about choking, what to offer, etc.

I'm about to start with my 7 month old!!

7 months is still young. She'll figure it out over time. I started with cheerios and would put them right in their back gums at first and that gave them the idea of what to do quickly. Within a few days both of my girls were feeding themselves cheerios no problem.

Other early favorites for them were bits of toast, pancakes, meatballs, meatloaf, bits of cheese, roasted sweet potato or squash, soft fruit.

Yes, she'll def realize the more she "practices". Maybe it's a good idea to check out YouTube for videos of babies doing baby led weaning, some of them show when a baby gags which a lot of parents mistaken with choking. Gagging is good, it's an actual reflex that prevents a baby from choking.

All of my kids were eating meatballs, pasta, soft veggies, bread, tiny bits of fruit, shredded chicken & turkey, mozzarella, cheddar etc. by 8 months old. We were completely done with pureed food by 9 months.
