flying with delta

I don't see an option on the delta website for a lap infant. Do I need to tell them I have a lap infant before I book a flight? Also, if I purchase basic tickets, you don't choose your seat before the flight. Does that mean my 4 year old might have to sit in a completely different section of the plane??

I'm not sure about the lap infant, I would call. You can check in 24 hours before...I always set my alarm so I can check in exactly at that time. You can choose seats then & shouldn't have a problem getting two seats together.

You can choose your seats after you purchase. With delta i reccomend when choosing the seat go for delta comfort is usually $35 more but it's worth for long flights specially for the extra leg room if you are going to carry a baby

I would definitely buy a fare that allows you to choose your seat now. I wouldn't risk there not being 2 together, and then having to deal with it at the gate.

Not the same thing, but speaking of Delta, we had an issue with them switching my son's confirmed seat last month. He was no longer sitting with us. When we asked to change it back, they said they can't just move the person that was now sitting in his seat, and we would need permission from that person at the gate. They didn't need permission to move my son's seat though! It was absolutely ridiculous!!

We just flew Delta and chose the Extra Comfort seats and they were worth it. I would definitely purchase tickets where you can pick your seats with a child. The only negative for us was that there weren't any tv's on the seats.

Really? This must be new because when I booked my daughter and granddaughters tickets (2 seats) about 2 months ago I was able to choose the seats.
I used the Delta/Amex card when booking so I wonder if that's why it allowed it.
I was also able to pick my seats for an upcoming trip for me and a friend next month.

You can pick your seats. But some routes have these cheaper fares that don't allow you to pick a seat. If you pay a little more, then you can.

For the flights I'm looking into, basic economy says no advance seating assignment. Delta comfort is $70 a person extra for the flights I'm looking at. I'm hesitant just getting the flights to begin with because they're so much money. I can't pay another $140 on top of what I'm already paying. Maybe the basic economy option is new to delta.

After you book, call and tell them that you are traveling with a lap child and a 4 year old. They will not seat you apart. If for some reason they do let them know at the ticket counter and they will make a change.

Re: flying with delta

Just a word on comfort select. Do it.
The seats will then be the size of a normal airline seat.
Delta has the worst leg room I have ever seen on a plane.
I upgraded to comfort select and I was still a bit cramped at 5'9".
However I looked at the poor guy in the seat behind me that was a regular seat and his knees were in his chest
If you want a normal tight cramped airline seat- go for comfort select

You will have to let them know about the lap child - it needs to be noted on your ticket.

As for your 4 year old, with that fare, they may not put you together. My friend was seated separately from her toddler on a flight once but, people were flexible and moved because they didn't want to sit with her toddler.

I usually spring for the next class up - I don't like all of the restrictions that come with that ticket, I like choosing my seat and being able to spend $75 to change my flight if need be for some reason.

basic economy on Delta does NOT allow you to choose your seats. Most of the time, you will end up with middle seats.

If you need to sit next to your 4 year old (obviously), do NOT buy the basic economy. You will need to buy a ticket that allows you to choose your seats in advance.
