Flying with children-documentation

My younger DS does not have a passport so we need to use his birth certificate. However I cannot find anywhere if it needs to be his original or a copy. If I don't need to bring it I'd rather not take his original w us but of course don't want to get stuck either.

Note: we are flying to Florida, so within the US.

Anyone know?

Is he lap child? If not, you shouldn't need documentation.

Re: Flying with children-documentation

We just flew 2 weeks ago.

My DD had a seat and my niece was a lap child.

We werent asked about ID/ Documentation for either child.

I had a copy of DD's Birth Certificate just in case and my sister had the same for her DD.

TA told us copies are fine. But we didnt need anyway.

Re: Flying with children-documentation

Been flying to Florida for the last 5 years with my kids. They are 7 years old and 9 years old now. Never been asked for any documentation for either of them. I bring a copy of their birth certificates just "incase", but never needed them.

Thank you guys! I'll bring a copy just in case but glad to be able to skip bringing the original!
