Flu shot for dc

Would you give your dc a flu shot at 6 months? I know it's the earliest you can get it, but would you do it?

If they were in day care then yes. The flu is so bad this year. If no day care just be sure adults around them are vaccinated, wash hands, clean toys and Lysol frequently.

Thanks. Not in daycare. I'm a sahm and both myself and my husband were vaccinated. Not around other adults (grandparents) often but I will also check to see if they were vaccinated.

I did because she was in daycare. She had no reaction at all.
In your case though, I might wait.

Yes. I did and we weren't in daycare. But I'm pro flu shot and get one for myself every year and my DH gets one every year too. None of us has ever had a bad side effect or the flu.

I'm a SAHM and I would bc I wouldn't want to chance that my DC could catch the flu. I had the flu 2 yrs ago, a yr I didn't get the vaccine, and it was pretty bad. People who are vaccinated can still get the flu, albeit not as severe as if they weren't vaccinated so the fact that you, your DH, and any other adult she's around has been vaccinated is no guarantee that they couldn't transmit the flu to her.

Yes, I would, and DS is not in day care. I just prefer vaccinations than actually getting the flu. It's just too dangerous at that age.

I did last year at 6 months for DD who is not in day care as well as this year. We go to lots of classes, play dates, etc and I wanted her to be covered. I had no plans of hiding at home all winter. Everyone I've ever heard whose child had the flu at a young age seems to think it's worth getting the shot. I'd rather take their experience than go through it myself.

I would since I am assuming that you bring your child with you on errands, etc. So she is exposed to other adults and children that can expose her to the flu. My son is in day care but even if he wasnt I would have done the vacination.

Nope didn't do it when she was 6months old - which was a January and just in the middle of the flu season. I don't do it now either, but I don't think the flu shot is worth it to start with so it never mattered to me how old she was. The flu shot does NOT mean you won't get the flu.

Thankfully our state does not require a flu shot for daycares!!!

That said, if you think the flu shot is worth it to start with and the child is of age go for it. Daycare has little to do with exposure. You are always exposed.

Yes according to the 'news' and CDC the flu is up and rampant. I don't know. I know of ONE person who's have the flu. Just one. We have all been joking about it on Facebook. I have a lot of nurse friends and family members here. Texas is way up on the wide spread category and super saturated. Yet we haven't heard diddly here. Other than.. GET THE SHOT! OMG ITS SO BAD GET IT GET IT. But there's been no one actually sick, yet. However, everyone I know who's have the shot has gotten sick to date. Of course its 'not the flu, just sick" I generally avoid people who have taken the flu shot for about 7days or so. If I can't, I am very cautious around them. This is the time of year for extra effort in hand cleaning, don't rub your eyes, don't rub your nose, eating in public, watch your plates, cups and use hot water for utensils, lots of sleep, lots of fluids and take allergy meds as needed. Flu is avoidable, without a shot.

Bottom line, if you support it, give them the shot. You probably won't sleep right until you know the shot is there to protect them. And if they get sick and you don't give them the shot, you'll hate yourself. Just be warned (again) even with the shot they can get sick.
