Flu shot- did your kid have side effects and when?
I am not looking for the debate of flu shot vs non-flu shot and the blah blah blah of the shot not having side effects. So please don't turn this into a debate.
DS just got his first flu shot ever today. I didn't know he needed to get a second shot in one month. That is right around the time we leave to go home to see my family. Now I am afraid of him being feverish when we go see my family. Did your child have side effects? If so, when do they typically show? If they had it for the first shot, did they appear again for the second one a month later?
TIA!

DS got his second round the same time as the chicken pox. a week later he had a fever and slight rash. but it could just be from the CP vaccine. he had no side effects from the first round.

DS was 6m, and 7m for second dose.
He had absolutely no side effects, in fact he barely cried for this one, and smiled at all the nurses on the way out. He's not typically one to react to shots in general though. (we had the preservative free one, if it matters)

DS got his first flu shot in August and spiked a fever of 102. The fever was gone in about 36 hours. He just got part 2 this past Monday and he was fine....

When my DD got the flu shot for the first time last year and the booster shot a few weeks later she had no reaction to either. You wouldn't even know she got a shot!

Re: Flu shot- did your kid have side effects and when?
Kelly, both my DC got the flu shot this year and neither had a reaction at all.
DH got his flu shot on a Friday and 24 hours later he was feeling achy, chills, and nauseous. He had those symptoms for about 36 hours. We can't say for sure that it was a reaction to the flu shot, but I'm thinking it was. Strange because he had no reaction last year. Go figure!
If you are worried about a reaction, why don't you wait to have his second shot when you get back?
They don't have to have the 2nd shot exactly a month later. There only has to be AT LEAST a 30 day space between the first and 2nd shots. Waiting another week or 2 won't hurt.
ETA: Wanted to add DD had 2 shots this year because it was her first flu shot. No reaction from either one.

I guess I am a bit nervous because we both contrcted the Swine Flu last year when we were in Rochester. DH was hospitalized and DS and I were there with him. Two days later we were 104 and crappy. Bad trip back home. He is scheduled to get the shot Monday morning and we leave Thursday morning. Think that's enough time? If I wait til we get back it will be Christmas.

If he gets it on a Monday and you leave Thursday, I think you will be OK.
If he does have a reaction it will most likely hit within 24 hours of getting the shot. So hypothetically if he had a reaction on Tuesday, he should be past it by the time you leave. I think if you look online it says the reaction will last 1-2 days.
I say keep the appointment and he should be fine!
