Flat Screen Televisions

DH and I treated ourselved to a Sony 32" HDTV for our family room.

We're having some minor issues. I really hope you guys can help.

1. I expected the tv to go flat on the wall. When I came home yesterday I found it tilting forward. My DH said that the electrician who put it up said that the proper way to mount them is with a tilt. Is that true? I think it's too tilted. Is yours?

2. When I turn the tv on the view I'm seeing shows grey sides and the rest is the picture from top to bottom. What view is this? Is this the default view? I'm not crazy about it but when I try other views it kind of stretches the picture and some views actually cut the words off like if I'm watching a news channel or something. What is the right view to watch?

thanks

I think thats how they have to hang. Also our had the grey bars on the side, we leave them but changed them to black, so you dont notice them as much. DH like the screen stretched but it makes everything looks super fat.

Mounting at an angle is 100% normal. As for the boxes you need to check your cable box setting and also your tv settings. If it's not on hd you will get those unless you stretch it. Some tvs do have a fill all feature which doesn't make it look horribly bad. I would take a look at the cable settings first and then look at the tv settings because both are independent.

If the show is not in HD you will get the grey bars on the side. Do you have a HD cable box? If so then for instance channel 7 is not hd but 707 is.

This is right. You can change the view mode so that you don't get the bars, but like you said, it does distort the picture slightly. The best setting on our Sony (we have a small Wega Bravea) is "wide zoom."

Re: Flat Screen Televisions

Sounds like you got a mount with a tilt. And if you have Cablevison with a HD receiver the 700's are the HD channels.
