First time at the movies
I have been holding off taking DS1 to the movies. He just turned 4 so I am thinking maybe he's ready. He likes shows, but mostly Nick Jr or Disney Jr. Hasn't seen too much movies, but loves Finding Nemo. My friend mentioned seeing Monsters Univ with her son.
Figured it's time, but wondered how first time in the movies went. Scared when it got dark? Did they sit through the whole thing?
Thanks

Re: First time at the movies
My DD saw her first movie around 2.5 and she loved it. She didn't have any issues with the darkness and she sat quietly during the whole movie.
I think readiness for the movies really depends on your child's personality and attention span. I say take him and see how it goes. Worse thing that happens is you have to leave early. Have fun!

Re: First time at the movies
My DD is 4 and she does great at the movies. She loves getting the snacks and munches away. For a frame of reference her pre school class this year did a field trip to the movies that I chaperoned and there were no issues with any of the kids.

Re: First time at the movies
AJ loves watching movies on the 'big big screen'.
With her we always sit near the aisle in case she has to go pee. So in that its never really ‘dark’. She thinks it’s cool to see the light strip or lights on the stairs.
She saw Croods and left because it got scary (no one warned us about that) plus the place had the volume SUPER loud all through the preshow and previews so poor kid was rattled. She made it back in after a few minutes and watched the rest of the show.
She saw Yellow Submarine (was playing in the theaters for one day only) and watched the WHOLE thing without moving a muscle. Sang along and everything.
She got restless with How to Train your Dragon and came back but sat through Jumanji no problem. Only movie she’s ever walked out on was Happy Feet showing (free show) because she was sleepy and got cranky. I didn’t care since it was free and so we left.
So it depends on the movie and if she’s fed, well rested and comfy.
Heck at 8m she went to see the first Star Trek do overs! LOL slept through huge explosions.
We have free movie nights on Tuesdays in a parking lot and a big inflatable screen so we take her there and we have free movies at all theaters every Tuesdays mid-morning as well as free on Sundays once a month at my favorite theater, so we keep taking her. She’s now a pro!
But really nothing’s out that we are willing to pay for that can’t wait. Maybe Monsters University, but maybe not. Still we will take her to the free stuff again this summer.

Re: First time at the movies
Luca is good with them now, he was able to sit through around 4. Mason, eh, not as good. But he's still only 3. He was able to sit through the last two movies, but I had to bribe him with candy. Here is my best tip... Don't get there on time! There are like 15-20 minutes of previews. I get there right when the movie is starting, get tickets, get snacks and then go in the theater.

Well, the only thing with the snacks is my Mason doesn't eat anything. LOL Maybe chocolate. We'll see.
I'm probably more excited about Monsters U than him anyway so hope he lasts through it.

First time at the movies
My son is almost 4 and he has seen a bunch of movies already, has done great in all but two movies. He hated Brave and Wreck it Ralph, but they were both for a little older crowds i felt like
HE gets his popcorn and soda, which is a treat in itself and loves going

First time at the movies
We took DS to see cars 2 when he was about 2.5 yrs old. It was a disaster. We ended up leaving after 25 min.
He is now 4.5 and I took him to see Croods 3D about 2 months ago and he was VERY well behaved and had a great time. So DH & decided to take him to see Ironman3 ( he LOVES Ironman) and again he was very well behaved. The only thing was that it was a little too loud for him in the beginning during the previews. But he quickly got over that once the movie started.
He can't wait to go back and to see another movie so I am thinking of taking him to see EPIC this weekend.
