Please give recommendations on your first sippy cup and if you liked it.

Also, when did you introduce it and what was in it?

We gave dd a sippy cup with water around 6.5 months
At 8 months she enjoys picking it up and dropping it on the floor.
She drinks from it only if we help her hold it
She likes the nubby and munchkin cups best. I got a playtex cup but the top is too hard for her I think

I started with the playtex little gripper straw cup with water around 6 months. It took her a little while to show interest and she's still not a big water drinker. I now have the bigger version and they're still my favorite cup. I find all the straw cups tend to leak if you leave them open with cold milk sometimes but these are easy to clean and assemble, easy for DD to drink from, and don't leak as long as DD drinks from it quickly or frequently enough.

Re: First Sippy Cup

dd is 7 months old and I got her the playtex straw trainer cup. She used a handful of times and know how to use a straw it's amazing. I suggest going straight to straws with this cup as I have read about sippy cups affecting speech development.

I used it with prune juice as she needed it for constipation issues. I have also put water in it.

We used the plates little gripper straw cups. We started DS at 6 months on it with water, and he was a pro by 7.5 months.

Re: First Sippy Cup

We started her on the playtex straw trainer cup around 5 months. She didn't start getting interested in drinking water until about 6 months. Now at almost 7 months, she will only drink from the straw cup than a sippy cup.

This is what we use! Skipped the sippy cup. Our daughter loves this cup and loves water. At first she did not get the straw, and would drink from just the cup part with us holding it...then one day she got it and it's easy for her to hold and drink from

Another vote for Playtex Little Grippers! We used them with both our boys starting around 6 months. It took them a bit of practice to get it, but they are great. Easy for them to hold, perfect size, and you can squeeze the bottom to send the water/liquid up the straw to help them learn.

Re: First Sippy Cup

I also started with the playtex straw ones. I introduced it at 6 mos. and she finally got it around 9 mos.! I didn't do any other sippy. I heard it wasn't great for the palate/teeth development. We also practice drinking from regular cups!

First Sippy Cup

Playtex cups with straws. Started it right after DS turned 1 when he switched to whole milk. He hated it for a few days but got over it. No sippy. Bad for their teeth.

Same. And I was told and read the same thing abou the sippy cups and speech.

It took my dd awhile to figure it out Im not gonna lie. She liked to chew on the straw at first, then she would suck the water out and spit it out on herself LOL but I kept giving it to her everyday with every meal and snack. She would take a sip here and there but nothing consistent. Then 1 day she got it. And now she drinks it like a champ LOL shes 16 months. I would say it took a good 3-4 months before she stopped playing with it fully and really started drinking from it.

ETA: I only give my dd water no juice yet in it. We tried milk once because we forgot her bottle and she was having a melt down LOL And she drank milk without a problem as well.
