First "school" bday party....

DS was invited to a friend from nursery schools bday party (he is turning 4). This is the first time we are invited to a party like this. What is an appropriate gift amount ($25?)
Also, should I bring him solo or is it appropriate to bring my husband along w/ my infant? I know my husband wont go to the party unless i do, and i know my DS will want my husband there. It is at one of those trampoline places.
TIA

It varies. Depending on the kid will dictate how much I give. DS has some classmates he has been with since about 5 months.

As for who goes.....you will see it all. One parent, both etc. DH & I have gone together but generally we try to alternate so the other can get errands done etc.

Re: First "school" bday party....

I spend about 20 to 25 on classmates. On the higher end or more if it's a good friend of DD's

You can bring your husband if your son wants him there and he wont' go without you. They aren't paying for adults at those trampoline places so it's fine.
I used to bring DH all the time for company- i am not a fan of socializing with people i don't know well

$25 is pretty on point for a classmate. Classmates usually come with 1 parent in my experience but i think its fine if you both go.

My DS is similar age to yours - we usually have one of us go to the party and the other stay home with our younger child. But we've both gone on a couple of occasions.

$25 I feel is typical. You start to go to a lot. My DDs friends are all turning 5 and a lot of parents write drop offs preferred. I mostly only see a mom, dad stays with a younger or older child. A few times I've seen a dad instead. Also some of the places aren't huge and can't accommodate two parents and siblings for the children.

$25 and one parent.

If the sibling is not invited, then you shouldn't bring the infant, even if it is a baby.

$25 is fine and no both of you shouldn't go since you have an infant. Besides the infant not being invited it probably isn't a big deal since they probably can't really participate I don't personally know why you would want to bring the infant and have to deal with them there when one of you can just stay home with them

I usually spend around $25. If you husband is home I would have him stay home with the baby. My husband usually is not home so I have to bring my younger son but I always ask before I do.

$25 is good. Usually it's just one parent, some of the party places are small, so i would avoid bringing an extra adult and infant.

I usually spend around $20.
Sometimes my husband and I will both go...especially at the trampoline places, there is a ton of space for the parents to walk around and chat. If it's a smaller venue then only one of us will go.
IMO bringing an infant is never a problem...but bringing older children who want to participate creates a dicey situation.

I spend 20-25. I think it's okay to bring an infant in a stroller but personally I think it would be a pita at the bounce places so I'd definitely prefer not to.

DS is going to his first birthday party in a few weeks. I planned on spending $20-25 and both DH and myself are going. If we had another child, I would have my DH stay home with said child.

This exactly. Its a kid party, not a family party. I used to get so annoyed when people brought their entire family. You buy pizza or food for the children and an extra slice or whatever for ONE parent who is chaperoning. I had people bring both parents, a sibling, and then I had to purchase extra food. When you are on a budget, it adds up quick.

Around $25 and only 1 parent. Most places charge for adults that I have seen and would not want to burden another parent with an added expense plus I know it would give one us a break.

What place have you been at that charges for adults at a kids party?
I have never ever heard of or seen that.
What would they be charging for? The adult to stand there with their child?
That can't be right.
I can see a movie theater yes- if the adult is staying having to pay for their admission though some theaters actually include adults in the fee.
But any place else? No way. I've priced parties at several places for DD and not one has told me I had to pay for adults.
Kids under a certain age NEED an adult there.
I have paid for an extra pizza or 2 for adults, but I have never heard of charging a fee for adults.

Maybe she means charges for the adult's food?

Nunley's does charge $2/adult, but I don't know any other place that does.

ETA: Many places do limit the number of adults they want, though, because space gets tight with tons of extra people standing around.

Re: First "school" bday party....

My dh and I go together to parties for my DS. The weekend is family time. I can't speak for what I'd do with an infant since I don't have one at the time, but if a school friend (or any other) brought an infant sibling to my DS's party I wouldn't blink an eye, personally.

I agree with this and to be honest, my DH NEVER eats at these things so it's not like they need to order any extra food for him.
And I have never had a party at a place that charges per adult- like I said, I ordered extra pizzas to have for an adult that showed up, and we had a ton left which I just took home.

Fyi: nunleys price includes 25 kids and 25 adults, they only charge extra if there is more than 25 adults and I don't think they even count to be honest. We've had 2 parties there and never paid more than the standard set price.
