First Birthday Out?

Anyone do a first birthday celebration that was not necessarily for kids. Based on a post earlier I thought brunch out somewhere was a great suggestion to keep costs low. We would keep it really small and only a few kids would be there. Do I have to come up with activites for them? Is that even possible in a brunch setting?

First Birthday Out?

We are having a party more for the adults. There will only be a handful of kids and we don't plan on having entertainment for them.

Re: First Birthday Out?

You can have some sort of coloring books for them. If its just a restaurant party where you are going to brunch you don't need entertainment.

Re: First Birthday Out?

dd's party is in 3 weeks...we are doing a brunch
its is mostly for family...we invited 55 adults and 5 kids (another 1 yr old, a 17 month old, a 3 yr old and two 5 yr olds). we are not doing any entertainment for the kids being there are so few and they vary in age.
because of cost we had to limit our invite list....we had another 14 people with kids under the age of 2 that we were debating on inviting, but the expense just got out of hand and with 15+ LOs i felt some sort of entertainment would be necessary

This is what we did. They all got goody bags which included crayons (among other things) and I told the moms coming in that there were coloring books and paper set out right next to the bags. I also noticed that the moms had brought activities for their owns kids to keep them busy. I don't think any special entertainment is necessary. We had about 8 kids, ranging in age from a couple months to 6 years old.

DS's 1st birthday is tomorrow at a restaurant. There will be 7 children, ages 3 months - 2.5 years. I bought a couple of coloring books but expect the food to be the entertainment. Chat Icon As a mom, I know I always bring little toys to entertain my own child, which I expect will happen. I don't really think there's much you can do when they are so young.

We did a lobster bake at a restaurant for DD's birthday. It wasn't a kids party.
