First Appointment - What To Expect..

Okay girls - since we have the Second Appt...i figured let's get this one filled in and updated...

I've been with an RE (until last week, when I was discharged)....

My first appointment is on the 18th, I was told to NOT expect an ultrasound, because it was assumed that I was having them with the RE (and i have been)...

I'm going to call them today and let them know the my edd was pushed up, that i'm due 5 days earlier than expected based on growth and that i had spotting yesterday - so that MAY change things (but i'm not sure).

What can I expect at this appointment? Is this one Dave should come to?? I think yes, simply because of the amount of information I expect to get...

Thoughts?

Edited to add - by the time my appointment comes around, I will be 10 weeks, 5 days.

Jess
I really think that every dr. is different so it is a hard question to answer

I had my 1st appointment a week after I tested positive
Other drs. wont see you until you are 8 weeks

my dr. does a sono (just so i can see him; no measurements) at every appt.

At the first appt. he did a transvaginal sono so i could see the sac and little grain of rice

they also took blood to check my hcg

good luck!!

ETA: if you will be 10 weeks at your 1st appointment; you will see and probably hear the hearbeat so yes, i would say dave should go

Re: First Appointment - What To Expect..

I would say every doctor is different. My first appointment was long...this is what happened:

Urine, weight and blood pressure. The nurses asked me a ton of questions, medical history, do I have any cats, etc....

Took a bunch of blood

Doctor came in, looked over my records from RMA very quickly (since I handed her over 300 pages!), asked me a bunch of questions also related to my history, since I hadn't seen her in over a year since I was with the RE.

If you haven't had a PAP in a while, expect that.

She did a breast exam on me, she did an internal exam just to check my cervix (I had a PAP with RMA earlier in January, so she didn't do one). Also, in NJ it's a state law that all pregnant women get tested for Ghonorrea, so she did a swab test.

I did spend quite a while with her only because she hadn't seen me in over a year. She answered any questions we had, told me how the practice works, etc...

DH was with me for this visit (he thought we'd get a sono, I told him we weren't going to get one, but he came anyway).

ETA: No sono (since they don't do them in my OBs office), and she did not listen for the HB because at 10 weeks it's still not easy to find with a doppler.

Re: First Appointment - What To Expect..

Jess- You know about my first appointment. We did have a sonogram since it was our first appt. I was glad Mike was with me for information purposes.

We also got a lot of info from the doctor and nurse about other tests like the Ultrascreen which should be done (if you choose) between the 11th and 13th week. I also have to go for bloodwork.
