fireplace ideas......please help

fireplace ideas......please help

we have a open floor plan for the living room and dinning room and open stair way.....opposite the stairs is a huge wall with 18 foot ceilings and this small fireplace and mantel that just seems to get lost in the space......

so i need help and suggestions, any pictures would be great

this is the only picture i have but the wall slopes up and goes up to 18 feet at the right side of the fireplace......

Without looking @ what you currently have in the room now...what if you went all the way up to the ceiling with the fireplace with some sort of stone work.

It would give the fireplace some impact against that wall as opposed to being lost.

Than maybe having some built in shelves that flank each side. Something like this

we dont want to build out the fireplace like that and it would be way out of budget for us too......

Hope these help. And as for the large wall and want to do with it. I would hang a large mirror or a large piece of art. Maybe some sconces on each side depending on your style.
