fire island

I haven't been to Fire Island in a long time so was looking into going. I'm surprised how expensive it is to just get there and get around by water taxi. Seems like we would be spending $100+ for 2 adults/2 kids to just get there, park, and use the water taxi. Is this right?

my friend just went and said it was about $40 for the ferry for 2 adults. so maybe a little less. she said everything was expensive there, like even the food and drinks at a deli.

Where in FI are you going?

The ferry (not water taxi) is $13 round trip from Sayville to Sailor's Haven, and $7.50 for kids. Parking is $8 at the ferry terminal during the week. A water taxi is probably not the same as the ferry that everyone takes. But I'm not sure, since I've never done that.

I'm not sure about parking fee but for 2 adults/2 kids the ferry to sailors haven ($16/adult, $7.5/kid) and then to go to ocean beach to grab some lunch we will have to take water taxi ($14/adult, 7/kid), then go back to SH would be the same. Comes out to be $131 just to get there and go to two places, unless I'm missing something/other methods of getting around.

Can't you just take the ferry to Ocean Beach rather than having to take the water taxi from Sailor's Haven?

We just went on Monday and it was $13 for the ferry. You must be looking at the wrong destination. The other ones are more money out of Sayville. But I agree with the PP, just go to Ocean Beach, or pack a lunch and avoid the water taxi thing. I don't even think there is a water taxi that leaves from Sailor's Haven, don't you have to walk to Cherry Grove or something?

You're right, it is $13. I was looking at a different destination. I may just suck it up and pay the water taxi thing because I kinda wanted to see sunken forest/sailor haven. i was just surprised to see it would cost so much just for transportation.

The beach there is so nice, hardly anyone there. I think the most was 30 people this Summer. We actually had a deer come down from the sunken forest onto the beach on Monday. It was so cool! Then he ran back up when the lifeguard chased him away. But he sat in the dune and just watched everyone on the beach. Our kids loved it!
