finding road races?
Where can I go to find road races? I am hoping to start with a 5K (I am being realistic, and aiming for next spring) but I don't even know how to go about finding where these races are and how to enter, and my friends are not runners so they can't help!

Not sure where you are located... I ran Cow Harbor the last two years and since I signed up online I get emails from Active.com about upcoming races in the area. You can do a search on that site for races in your area though.
Also at all of the races I go to now they seem to be promoting other races.
I have friends who are runners but their shortest races are 10Ks whereas that's my max! Haha.
