Finding out too much...
So, now that I'm very early into being pregnant and looking into things I can't believe the stuff I'm finding out..
green tea is bad (and I have it every day) salicylic acid is bad (and that's what I wash my face with every day)
Is there anything else I really should know about? I have the list of food and other things to avoid, but neither of the above are on the list. I have it on the list of questions to ask the Dr my first visit in a week and a half.
Thanks!

don't worry - we all use products and eat things we are not supposed to until we find out we can't have them. if you are really early in your pregnancy, then I am sure you are just fine.

Re: Finding out too much...
well, there's a fairly lengthy list that varies depending upon who your physician is...
generally it includes:
alcohol-unless it's a wine sauce and the alcohol is cooked out.
limit caffeine (maybe a cup of coffee a day...)
deli foods like cold cuts and prepared salads (listeria risk... but if you briefly heat the cold cuts until you see whisps of steam it will kill the bacteria and then it's ok to eat again)
unpasteurized dairy... no more gruyere! but cheese made from pasteurized milk is ok
no semi-soft cheeses like brie or blue cheese (pasteurized goat cheese is fine, as is cream cheese)
raw fish, rare meat, runny eggs
I think that's it for the biggies....

Try not to stress yourself out too much. Your doctor will talk to you about the can's and the can't and you'll hear all kinds of things from all kinds of people. You'll be able to decide what advice to take, and what to chuck. It's a LONG 40 weeks!!

Thanks Ladies! I pretty much know the general list... no alcohol, undercooked meats, sushi, deli meats, raw eggs, certain cheeses, smoking, caffeine, etc... Just the other things like my face wash and green tea surprised me.

yeah, that stuff gets so specific that you only bump into those restrictions when it's a situation similar to yours and you use the stuff regularly.....

Actually my Dr said it was OK to have a glass of red wine every once and a while. So def talk to your Dr and see what (s)he advises.

My dr. said salicylic acid face wash is fine, I use it. Just don't swallow it, which i'm sure you don't. She did say to stay away from retin-a, obviously, and the kinds of face wash that are for rejuvenation, like that have the antioxidants and vitamin A....i don't know if those 2 things specifically, but those lines of skin care products. In other words, don't worry about refining your wrinkles and crows feet, if you have them.

My Dr. said that salicylic acid is fine. I brought in my face wash from clinique and she didn't tell me not to use it. XOXOXO BOTB
