finding out if a home is legal
Does anyone know how you can find out if a multi family rental home is legal? Its in the village of lindenhurst if that makes a difference. TIA!

I would go directly to the town and ask. When we bought our home, we were told that the apartment was 'Legal' and later found out that was incorrect. The people did get a CO to change it to an apartment but it was for family use only. A permit was never issued to make it an "accessory apartment" and apparently, there is a difference.  We've been going back and forth with the town filling out papers, getting a new survey, paying fees, what a mess. They don't want people renting illegally but they make it SO hard to get a permit. We finally have a meeting scheduled on the 11th for the vote to get our approval and then we have to pay for the permit. what a pain!!!! I am telling you, if any of my neighbors show up to complain at the meeting I am going to PUMMEL them. What a pain - to avoid this hassle, definitely check directly with the town and they should be able to help you. I wish I had done that :)

Check with the town of Babylon or Village of Lindenhurst.

permits for accessory apartments don't transfer with ownership. You would have had to apply for a permit anyway.

I can look it up to see if its a legal multi- family house. FM the address.

who you ratting on, those people across the street?
I can't take it anymore. It's rediculous! The constant noise, the not watching your kids EVER, I swear there are like 3 or 4 families living there. That can't be legal.
