Finance people...I have a question
I have an undergrad degree in business
I work in an investment firm but I'm not eligible for tuition reimbursement for a while (I plan on def starting to take courses for my masters when I'm eligible for reimbursement at Baruch for Finance)
I was thinking of taking a Real Estate Finance and Investment program at NYU for now.Its 6 courses and then I would get a certificate.
Is it worth it or a waste of money? (Those courses can be transferred at graduate credit for a much cheaper rate)

DH said you'd be better going for your CFA, at his firm they wouldn't take the certificate seriously at all. Sorry.
Is the program through NYU's SCPS? I did a different program with them and would not recommend them at all.

I completely agree.
However, I will say this - do not pursue CFA/MBA until your company requires/asks of it and pays for it - getting it on your own is very costly and sometimes you're left with it and no where to go.
I can't tell you how many people I know that have CFAs that they got on their own, and not utilizing it b/c the firm did not sponsor it. Same goes for an MBA - some people think it automatically means better pay and better job - unless it's from a top tier school with job placement, advanced degrees no longer have the caliber they once held.

Exactly - see if it's beneficial. You have your undergrad, so you're good for now. Any other secondary education is unnecessary for many positions w/in finance.
What are you doing now, and what would you like to do? If you're not comfortable posting, feel free to FM me.
I started out in Accounting & Control, and then moved into Credit Risk Management. I ended up on the Credit Portfolio Desk (FX/Derivatives Trading) and my experience in accounting/control and then credit risk mgmt was the perfect bckgrd they were looking for. They sponsored the licensing, got me lined up for my MBA, and all paid for.
If I stayed w/in Risk Mgmt - no need for the licensing (just Credit Training through an Intn'l Bank) and no need for the MBA. While there was tuition reimbursement (80%) it took hours away from work - dropping me down the scale.
