Fifths Disease

So a student in DD's class who sits in front of her at a table was just diagnosed with Fifths. He has the rash so from what I hear, that means its the end. I am 37 weeks 4 days so I am pretty sure there is no reason for concern at this point. I am going to call the doc today to see what they say but just wondering if anyone has experience with this. What signs do I look for? What would they do if I did have it?

I think at this stage you don't have to be concerned but def call your Dr.
I was exposed right before i got pregnant or like as a conceived... It's hard to tell. Anyways because I was exposed that early I had to see a specialist and had sonograms ever two weeks in the beginning and then ever week up until now ( I'll be 21 weeks Tuesday) they were checking for anemia for the baby as this could have complicated the pregnancy. They seemed to only be concerned about the beginning of the second trimester as it was a very important time for growth. I had no symptoms
Or Signs myself.

Like I said I think Your baby will be okay but doesn't hurt to call the Dr. Good luck! :)

Re: Fifths Disease

Many people are immune and a lot of time you are screened in your first trimester blood work. I'm a teacher so I called my OB when there was a case in my building and they told me they routinely screen and I was immune. I would call your OB.

I was going to say what the PP said. I know they tested me in the first trimester, I came back immune to it, call your OB they probably tested you as well with that first round of bloodwork.

Re: Fifths Disease

They would have tested you for immunity early on.....I'm not immune to it so it's something they told me about when the results came back. So perhaps you're immune if they never told you otherwise? Definitely call your OB! But I would stay away from that child until you know.

A student at my school had it (not in my class), and my doctor had said when I called that I'm more likely to get it at the grocery store than if I had no direct contact with this child. They just told me to watch for symptoms, which I forget what they were (sorry!).

I had fifths about 2 weeks ago (I'm not expecting). I work in an elementary school and knew I wasn't immune when I was pregnant with DS. I had a fever for 5 days. Two days after the fever broke I broke out in the rash and has pretty bad joint pain...even the tips of my fingers hurt. I also had a hard time eating and didn't have much of an appetite.

Re: Fifths Disease

Thanks all! I spoke to nurse at docs office and will again ask my doc just in case on monday when I go. She said no worries at this stage of the game. Just avoid close contact with DD if she shows symptoms.
