Fever and Ear Infection Question....

DS has POSSIBLE RSV but a definite ear infection. He is prone to ear infections but never has been this bad/cranky with one AND has had a fever since Sunday evening. We started antibiotics on Tuesday evening. How long should/could his fever last and when should I call the ped again if it doesn't go away? My poor little man. Seems a LOT higher in the morning and evening... this is normal too right with fevers??? Any info/advice would be MUCH appreciated from this sad/tired/worried Mommy...

TIA!

2 days on antibiotics the fever shld be down, they meds shld be fighting that infection. I would call Dr. tomorrow am if fever is not changing.
Keep baby hydrated and give em some Motrin. Hope that helps and hope your son feels better soon.. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Well, we started the antibiotic on Tuesday evening so he has only had 2 doses. It's once/day. Maybe that's why and he will start feeling better today, HOPEFULLY. COuld it be the RSV causing the fever MORE than the ear infection? I wonder how long the fever can last with RSV? Would you know? Luckily we're not on breathing treatments or anything but he is so pitiful!

Re: Fever and Ear Infection Question....

My ped said a fever could last up to 5 days, and that it is OK as long as there aren't any new symptoms. Thomas' fever (so far) has always broken on the 4th day. I'm a worrier though, and I'd call ped. just to make sure he/she is aware of the fever.

Hope DS feels better soon!

Re: Fever and Ear Infection Question....

DD was diagnosed Tuesday with an ear infection and hasn't had a fever since Tuesday afternoon. We've been giving her Motrin every 6 hours. Her fever (102) was highest Monday night.

Good luck!

I don't think he's had enough of the antibiotics in his system to really notice a difference yet.

Can you still give Motin when they are on antibiotics? If so, I would def. give him some - that will bring his fever down and help him feel better!

I hate the winter and hope all of our babies feel better real soon! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Yes, you can definitely give Motrin when they are on antibiotics and I have been. It just seems like this fever is lasting SOOOO much longer than ear infections in the past (and we have had PLENTY of those). That's why I kind of wonder if it's the RSV more than the ear infection causing the fever.....

How is Jack feeling? Better I hope!
