Fever
I have been sick for the past 2 days and my mom keeps telling me if I have a fever to call the doctor. What qualifies as a fever high enough to call the Dr? My normal body temperature is 97.4 - 97.6 so when I have a temp of 98.6 I am sick. Right now I am 98.4 and 99.0 (8am and 6:30p) In my mind that is really too low to think I need to call a Dr right?

Re: Fever
Are you early on in the pregnancy? I would call. It can never hurt to be over cautious with these things, IMO

Re: Fever
I am not one to call the dr too quick. There is so much going around right now, it's probably just a virus. I woud take Tylenol and get some rest and see how you feel in a few days.

Re: Fever
Do you feel like you have a fever? Because while your normal body temp is normally low, your current temp is actually still in the normal range. It's possible you're just slightly warmer in pregnancy due to the increased hormones. I'm assuming, though, that you feel sick b/c otherwise you wouldn't be taking your temp. So ok, if you feel sick, I'd call the dr to err on the side of caution. But if you feel normal, then your temp is normal and I don't think there's a reason to call.

It hink my office said to call only with a fever over 100 or 101. I'd have to look in the little handout they give!

Re: Fever
Agree with pp your "normal temp" rises due to pregnancy itself. I would call if you hit 100

Re: Fever
A fever technically is 100.4 so even though you are higher than your norm it still is in a safe range
I once went to the doctor before I as pregnant because I was having temperatures like 99.0 and he told me its nothing and basically to stop taking my temperature that much. But I know being pregnant people are much more cautious.
If you are really worried about it call. That is what they are there for but I think those numbers are ok.

Really? I was just sick over Xmas and I was running temps of 102.4 for a 2-3 days and my drs weren't concerned at all. In fact, everything I read said a fever isn't harmful to the baby. I took Tylenol and let it run it's course and I was better in a few days.
I can't imagine going into the hospital for a fever, fevers are not really cause for concern unless the are crazy high like 104-105. A fever is just your body's way of fighting off an infection. I guess every dr is different.
