Fetal echo test?
Tomorrow I have to go for a fetal echocardiagram. Has anyone ever had to do this? They haven't seen any problems with LO but my dr wanted me to go for this test being that we did IVF. Just wondering how it works. I know it is just a sonogram, but anything else I should know?

Re: Fetal echo test?
We went for this because DH had a heart defect when he was a baby. Thank goodness everything is fine now but you are right it's a sono and they look closely at the 4 chambers of the heart. It was actually really interesting. Our doctor took measurements and showed us all the different parts of our daughter's body. He also asked us if we knew what we were having because he showed us again. I was worried about going but afterwards I was so happy we went.

Re: Fetal echo test?
I had this done because my baby wouldn't budge and flip over.. so after two tries, the tech sent me for a fetal echo. It was just like a sono, but an in depth analysis of the baby's heart.. they look for the 4 chambers, the valves leading in and out of the lungs, stenosis in the aorta etc.
Everything went well but I was apprehensive as well.. but its nothing more than a sono.

Re: Fetal echo test?
i went for one when i was about 22 weeks pregnant due to genetic abnormalities in my family.
they looked at the baby entirely but spent most of the time on his heart - took about 1.5-2 hours because he was stubborn. it was great though, I got to stare at him for almost 2 hours
just like a regular sonogram but they focus on the heart

Re: Fetal echo test?
ive had these done since i have been in the hospital. The contraction meds I am on can affect the babies hearts so they do the fetal echo once a week to makre sure nothing is going on. It is just a regular sono where they just look closely at the heart and take lots of pics.

Re: Fetal echo test?
Thanks everyone! I am not getting done at my dr's office but at the hospital. Do they do anything else! (weight, urine) or is it only a sono?
