He came to the house to estimate our stoop. We have a decision to make about using cement joints or not. He tells us that most people don't do the cement anymore and use the bigger 6x9 blocks instead of the 6X4.

If anyone has done thsi recently, please chime in.

Also we are so stuck with colors. We have a white brick house with dark green trim.

Any suggestions are more than welcome.

Re: Fernando

What is he proposing instead of cement? Sand? Are the blocks on a concrete base at least?

As far as the bigger vs. smaller block - it's more labor (possibly more expensive) for them to use smaller block because they have to use more block. I would pick the one you like better if it's the same price for both.

Re: Fernando

Yes, it's set in cement, rocks..etc.

The look is solid so there is are joints showing.

Re: Fernando

I think he should still be sweeping sand over it to fill in whatever small gaps there are, even if you don't have concrete joints. He may assume you know he is doing that, but I would ask. The main thing is you want them to be set in concrete for stability and lack of settlement, but also so you don't get weeds growing up through the pavers.

True on all points. I will make sure. He is doing our stoop Friday. I think we've narrowed down our colors. I'm so happy to be finally doing this. My steps are a mess.

Re: Fernando

when he did mine they did cement - it looked so sloppy. it bothered me for a year so I called him. They came and put in the black joint things and I think they look worse.... I know everyone loves Fernando but we are not pleased with ours at all. After two years, the patio is starting to buckle.

**fyi mines a patio not stoop
