Ferber Method moms- Need Help
So I am going to do the Ferber Method with my DD. Shes 9 months now and the last 3 months have been so inconsistent with her sleeping its ridic!
I tried it once 3 months ago and we were doing great for a bit. Some hiccups along the way (sickness/teething) but she would go back to STTN. Soothing herself.
Last week I thought she was teething and that was the cause of the waking again so I did not let her cry. I would respond.
but now Im thinking its not teething anymore and shes just constantly waking. I gave her motrin and she was up within 2 hours, then 4 hours then 3 hours. With motrin she shouldn't be waking so much. Even the peds said it. To top it off, th only way back to sleep is with a bottle. I KNOW BIG NO NO! I KNOW!
My question is this. My DD has a habit when she wakes up crying she sits herself up and sometimes even stands herself up in her crib. Using the Ferber method when I go in there what do I do, lay her back down? Or just talk to her and walk out of the room leaving her standing or sitting? 2 nights ago when she woke she put herself in sitting position I put her back down and rubbed her back and she kept pushing on my hands to get herself back in the sitting position. What do I do?
PLEASE HELP! THANKS!
ETA: She does not take a paci. She does not have a blankie. And I do not have music or projector or anything. I tried Music and projector, but found they did absolutely nothing for her. I just bought her a lil tiny stuffed animal head with the lil blankie attached, Im thinking I may put that in there with her if she really likes it, cause I got it for her cause she responded to it so enthusiastically in the store.

I used to lay dd back down and kinda hold her down for a bit. Obviously not hurting her but so there was a little resistance when she tries to get up. I would rub her back as much as I could and tell her it's night night time mommy loves you etc and leave. She always sat back up but eventually she will lay herself back down and fall asleep.

I did Ferber before my DS was pulling himself up, so id just rub his back. Since your DD is standing, I would lay her down each time and rub her back. Now is the time to nip all of her bad habits in the bud bc it's only going to become more difficult. I would highly recommend a sound machine and some type of "lovie". Even at the age of 2+, my DS knows that once that sound machine turns on, it's time to sleep. He has a blanket that he can't sleep without, it really comforts him. Maybe she just needs a little something to comfort her.

Ladybug thats what i was thinking too. She has nothing to help soothe her. I just got her that lil blankie with the stuffed animal attached so even though im totally paranoid about blankies im gonna give it a try. I did the soothing music thing but it did nothing to soothe her. She woild still wake up every 2 hours and crying very hard.
I just want her to sleep better so she has healthy sleep habits. This is so difficult.

Ferber Method moms- Need Help
Thank you. It was so hard but thank goodness it only lasted 20-30 min then she fell asleep. Sttn! The only thing my dh got nervous about was the lil blankie with stuffed anjmal attached. He wanted to take it out. My dd puts everything in her mouth and he was afraid she would put it in her mouth durimg the night and God forbid suffocate. :-/ i was nervous too but not as much as him.shes 9 months do you allow your 9 month old sleep with one of those type of blankies?

Re: Ferber Method moms- Need Help
we just transitioned dd to her crib a few weeks ago from the rnp and she did NOT want to be in her crib. she has been waking up every hour for the past 3 months. the other night i just had enough and decided to do full on cio. i tried the progressive approach a a month or so ago and it didnt work. i feel going in there makes it worse! first night she cried 40 min then fell asleep. it was really hard to listen to her for that long. she still woke up once or twice but i let her cry. she only cried for about 10 min each time. at least she is sleeping for a block of hourse now, butttt she is now sleeping on her tummy because when she cries so much she rolls all over and ends up falling asleep on her tummy. i hate it but i think shes more comfy on her belly. this might be why she is sleeping a lil longer now too. tonight is night # 6. she is still crying it out but def sleepinng better than she was previously. she doesnt cry for too long either so i dont feel SO bad. ugh this stinks but I jus want her to sleep good

I actually found the opposite to be true for my boys.
Sleep begets sleep.
Better naps = better nighttime sleep
If you don't have to wake her for work/daycare, why not try letting her sleep until she wakes up?
Babies need a lot more sleep than you might think.
And an overtired baby is a lot harder to get to sleep.

Mine has been sleeping with one since she was 4 months old. She uses a paci at night though, so it isn't going in her mouth. She loves her "lamby" and seeks it out at night.
